The science, the magic and the history of Hetu and Luoshu

The mythology surrounding their origin is as follows: * Hetu (River Chart): It is said that during the time of the mythical Emperor Fuxi, a dragon-horse (longma) emerged from the Yellow River, carrying a chart or diagram on its back. This was the Hetu. * Luoshu (Luo Book): Later, during the time of Yu the Great (founder of the Xia dynasty), a divine turtle emerged from the Luo River with a mystical pattern or book on its shell. This was the Luoshu. These two findings were interpreted by ancient sages and are believed to contain profound wisdom about the universe, the order of nature, and the principles of change. They are often depicted as numerical square diagrams, representing the fundamental structure of reality and the basis for various philosophical and divination systems in China.
