This one question caused such strife between the rest of Jesus followers and the boys, yet Jesus decided to give deep insight into what was to come, but also the conditions to ask, and how to judge if you’re ready.  “Are you able to drink from the cup that I drink from and be baptised with the baptism to which I will be baptised?” He was setting out the parameters to which development and elevation comes. The basis of this part of the book is key to understanding much of what is to come. (Chapters 1-2) Discourse - Job and his friends get into it, they offer their opinions on why Job is in this condition, and Job reiterates his innocence and questions God. (Chapters 3-37) The Response - After the 36th time and demanding that God answers him, God responds, sets examples and questions Jobs ability to comprehend the depth and capacity to manage creation. (Chapters 38-41) Epilogue - Job humbled by the awesomeness of God apologises, God restores him, and gives him the choice to restore his friends. Job receives more than what he lost, trust and relationship wins over the uncertainty of doubt and crisis.  What do we know - It’s set in the land of Uz which is away from Israel. All characters are non-Israelite, wealth is measured in livestock. The fact he had camels, and the tribal names of some of his friends suggest that regionally we’re looking at a man of great status and position within and among the Arabian tribes.   “Best of Friend-emies” Round Friend Speaks Chapters Round 1 Eliphaz 4–5 Bildad 8 Zophar 11 Round 2 Eliphaz 15 Bildad 18 Zophar 20 Round 3 Eliphaz 22 Bildad 25 Zophar (missing/uncertain) Eliphaz was convinced Job had done some mess and that he should humbly and sincerely go to God and ask for forgiveness. Job 4:1-11 Bildads true intention to job and how he truly sees him comes to the fore as he says to him that his Kids bought their death upon themselves. Job 8:1-14  Zophar believed that jobs own wickedness is the only reason that he’s in this position, what’s really at the heart of this is jealousy, and now they see an opportunity to say and do and be as they’ve always felt. Grief & Trust Job 7/8 7:1-5 - Job finds himself asking questions beyond his ability to comprehend, he recalls the experience of the moment and documents it almost in disbelief, going over rudiments and principles and trying to figure out where it’s gone wrong. 7:5-10 - Job is again reiterating his desire to not be, he doesn’t want to cast away his life, but he aligns the principles of his situation along that of a person who should either be dying, dead or executed. 7:11-15 - Pain must be allowed to speak, Hebrews 4:15 God didn’t have a problem with what he was feeling, he just didn’t want it to get in the way of what he was supposed to know and do, which is trust and obey.. 7:15-21 - Job questions the wisdom and seeming folly of what appears to be his life. He beseeches God as to what his charge is (Psalm 34), he asks God why have you made me your target, when in fact God had made Job his testament. The enemy would have Job thinking that the very thing he covered his children is the very thing God was exposing him for, but in righteous tribulation God only exposes that which he has already covered. Abandoned Yet Not Alone Job 6 * 6:1-7 - Job responds in disbelief because he’s answering questions from people that should know, he’s defending his integrity to those whom he already believed understood who and what he was. He doubles down on his argument of righteousness, and asks rhetorical questions of those questioning him. * 6:8-14 - job has now lost the hunger and desire to live, he has seen himself brought to nought and he feels abandoned, yet he’s not alone. He almost questions in a comical what more can I do, what more can I suffer, how much more can I endure. * 6:14-21 - Sometimes we lose patience, sometimes you get to a point where you no longer have any desire to debate. Job actually asks his friends to put up or shut up, he takes them to task over their inability to answer him or judge him justly or fairly. * 6:21-25 - Job goes on the offensive, and calls his friends out, sometimes the heat of the trial will burn away civility and leave you with what you truly feel, and he saw past the synthetic sincerity and wanted to proof his friends and the intention from where they’re understanding was coming from.
