Detective Pikachu Week Twenty-Three: Pitching the Sequel

For nearly seven years now, The Pokémon Company has been silent on any details of the possibility of the release of the sequel to 2019's Detective Pikachu. This week, the brothers attempt to pitch some ideas for that sequel, tentatively titled The Great Detective Pikachu. Some predictions include the reveal of Roger's mother, the big bad guy, an addition of another legendary Pokémon, as well as exactly how Harry might end up back in Pikachu's body. It's all speculative, but if anyone in Hollywood is listening, Harrison and Ethan are more than happy to help sit in on some future meetings.

Detective Pikachu Week Twenty-Two: Is It Cyberpunk?

Fresh from their midway check-in, Harrison and Ethan return with another genre fiction related, pseudo-academic episode breaking down the 2019 masterpiece Pokémon Detective Pikachu and how it fits into the cyberpunk subgenre of sci-fi. They discuss ways in which it takes from the tropes and how they differ. Ethan also explains to Harrison (and the audience) what solarpunk is and how Detective Pikachu might also be a possible entry in that subgenre. Despite being a movie made specifically for children, there is a lot more to Detective Pikachu than one might first assume.

Now nearly at the midway point of their journey, Harrison and Ethan return for another week of watching Pokémon Detective Pikachu. They discuss their thoughts on the podcast as it currently exists, how they feel about the movie twenty-one weeks in, as well as where the show might be headed into next year. Ethan is growing tired of the watching experience, and Harrison is feeling the very beginnings of the stream running out, though they both agree that they still love the movie.

This week, the Poole boys are back with another deep dive into the 2019 masterpiece that is Pokémon Detective Pikachu. This time, they've decided to take a look at the father/son relationship dynamics between protagonists Tim and Harry Goodman and antagonists Roger and Howard Clifford. They note how they serve as foils to one another narratively and note the similarities and differences between them. Both brothers are still excited watching the movie, though Harrison is enjoying his time slightly more than Ethan.

Detective Pikachu Week Nineteen: 7th Birthday Special

This week, the boys record their episode on the 7th anniversary of the official US release date of 2019's Pokémon Detective Pikachu. To celebrate this birthday spectacular, they quiz each other with trivia throughout the movie and franchise and end with a couple "birthday wishes" for the film and possible sequel. They also discuss a new theory about why Generation 1 seems to get all the love compared to others.
