St Andrew's in the Grange, Church of Scotland (Guernsey )
Welcome to the St Andrew’s in the Grange sermon podcast from Guernsey. This sermon was preached on Sunday, 21 June 2026, and is based on Ruth 3:1–18. Ruth’s encounter with Boaz at the threshing floor is a story filled with risk, vulnerability and sexual tension. Naomi’s plan places Ruth in a precarious position, where she could easily have been exploited by someone with greater social and economic power. This sermon explores the difficult questions within the passage rather than trying to sanitise it. What does the story reveal about consent, dignity and the responsible use of power? In a moment of vulnerability, Boaz chooses not to take advantage of Ruth, but to treat her with respect and seek her security.
