I frequently ask myself the question “what kind of person do you want to be when you’re seventy?” The choices that we make today impact our character and our futures. This week we’re going to look at the story of Saul, Israel’s first king. As we look at his story, we’ll see the expectation and hope that came with his ascension to power, and we’ll watch how poor choices and living in regret ultimately derailed his life and led to a legacy that aged poorly. Jonathan: Legacy of Loyalty

Though not a main character in the books of Samuel, Jonathan manages to have a big impact because of a trait he shares with God. This week, we look at the cost and reward of living a life of loyalty.

Samuel: Legacy of Integrity

This Sunday we start a new study based out of 1 Samuel, examining the “last words” of key characters in the book. We start with Samuel, the last judge and the first major prophet. Samuel led through a time of moral chaos and helped transform Israel from a loosely knit group of tribes to a united nation. His last words come in the form of a question, “Have I ever cheated any of you?”

Now Choose

We have come to the end of the Sermon on the Mount! And if he began his message with tenderness, he ends with urgency.  How we respond to him and his teaching, says Jesus, will be the most important decision we ever make, and you must make a decision!  Jesus knows that life forces you to choose, and no decision is a choice.  You must decide what path you will take.  You must decide what voice you will listen to.  You must decide what foundation you will build your life on.

When we’ve grown impatient with the waiting, lost our stamina for persistence, what keeps us praying? What is Jesus’ response to those of us who find ourselves asking without receiving an answer, seeking without finding, knocking without being welcomed in? How does Jesus respond to the real, deep questions of those praying faithfully, waiting patiently, and beginning to grow weary? Come and find out, cya Sunday!
