Acerca de Honesdale Borough

The official media channel of the Borough of Honesdale including council meetings and other public business before the municipal government. Honesdale, originally known as “Dyberry Forks,” was the terminus of the D&H Canal which ran 108 miles to Rondout, NY. It was used to carry coal from the coal fields to the market in New York City. It was laid out as a village in 1826 when the D&H Canal was created. Honesdale was named for Philip Hone, the first president of the D&H Canal Company and former Mayor of New York City. It was incorporated as a borough on January 28, 1831.

Honesdale Borough Council Regular Meeting: May 9, 2022 Mayor Derek Williams stated that reflecting on this past Mother’s Day, there were many amazing women in his life. He stated that serving on a male dominated body, such as this, that it should represent and reflect others that may not look like him. Call Meeting to Order Council President James Hamill called the regularly scheduled Borough Council meeting to order at 6:00 PM on Monday, May 9, 2022. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. The in-person meeting was conducted in the second-floor meeting room of Borough Hall, 958 Main Street, Honesdale, with a virtual participation option. A roll call of Councilors indicated the following were present at Borough Hall: President James Hamill, Vice-President Jason Newbon, David Nilsen, Jared Newbon, William McAllister, and Michael Augello. In addition, the following Borough officials were in attendance: Mayor Derek Williams, Solicitor Richard Henry, Sgt. Keith Colombo, and Borough Secretary Judith Poltanis. Attending virtually were DPW Director Dan Brown. Councilor James Jennings joined the meeting at 6:30 PM. The Sunshine Act permits agencies to "discuss personnel matters" by the agency in executive session.
