Episode 07 Ashok & Nitin - Unwinding in India Cover

07 Ashok & Nitin - Unwinding in India

In this show I am inhealthycompany with Nitin Shahane and Ashok Kumar from unwind India https://www.unwindindia.com/ [https://www.unwindindia.com/] I had just completed a 250km cycle ride through Kerala on a very basic bike and took the opportunity to chat to Ashok and Nitin about the importance of enjoying the journey in life. With apologies to Wordsworth... “Dull would he be of soul who could pass by, sights, sounds and smells so touching in their majesty”. The ultimate destination of the cycle trip was The Hope Community Village in Kerala, a local charity helping children in need to build their lives again http://hopekerala.org/ [http://hopekerala.org/] where I was part of a group from Virgin Atlantic who donated their bikes to the community. I was certainly in tears as I saw the great work and passion of the charity and the happiness in the children’s faces.

Episode 06 Laura Stevenson - How do teachers deal with the pressures of their job? Cover

06 Laura Stevenson - How do teachers deal with the pressures of their job?

It was lovely to get my daughter Laura on to my show.  She’s is a busy teacher in a Primary school and together we discussed how she deals with the pressures of her workload, and the stresses and strains of the first few years of her professional life. Happily, I also heard how input from her management team, colleagues, and her own strategies has helped her to deal with the pressures of the “work-life balance” (most of the time). We also discuss how the rewards of teaching are now far greater than any of the down-sides. I think there are lots of interesting things about good mental health in this show, whether you are a teacher or not. However If you are affected by any of the issues in this show I recommend that you contact the Education Support Partnership.  They are the only UK charity providing mental health and wellbeing support to teachers and everyone working in education. They have a free, confidential helpline staffed by BACP qualified counsellors and get help when you need it: call 08000 562561 or email: educationsupportpartnership.org.uk

Episode 05 Chris Hall - Airline Pilot & International Adventurer Cover

05 Chris Hall - Airline Pilot & International Adventurer

In this podcast it was Tim's pleasure to be In Healthy Company with Captain Chris Hall, with whom he's shared flights , 3rd class Indian rail journeys, long hot dusty  coach journeys as well as many hours cycling, walking, camping, sailing,  and of course eating and drinking. In the episode he talks about his parent's fight against apartheid and his upbringing as a refugee.  Tim wanted to show how Chris' values and mental wellbeing have been shaped not only by nature and nurture but also by taking personal responsibility for one's own health and wellbeing. Part of this is his passion for having fun while doing good while helping others achieve their own goals and overcome challenges. In the interview we can see how Chris has not only enriched his own life through charity work, but also contributed to his own well being through his work in various communities.
