Councillor Paul Manly sets gears in motion bringing construction noise complaints to the forefront on this week's council meeting

Brooklyn Creek Watershed Society finds a record amount of smolts for 2026

A Comox Valley environmental group is reporting record Coho salmon smolt counts in Brooklyn Creek, following recovery efforts. ”We have the highest number we've ever had this year. And for us it's very positive because we did some work upstream on a farm where the farmer let us add some reeds for grown salmon to spawn, some spawning areas. And so we are thinking because we did that riparian work, we have this higher salmon count,” said Viviane Schmidt, volunteer with the Brooklyn Creek Watershed Society. Nanaimo Lions Foundation Dog Walk seeking donations to provide guide dogs to Canadians with disabilities

The Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides provides service dogs at no costs to Canadians with disabilities. Every year they raise money by organizing walks in more than 200 communities across the country. Anita Holmboe is the coordinator for the Nanaimo Lions Foundation Dog Walk, which has been running since 2007. Holmboe explains why community support and donations are important to the organization. “It takes about $30,000 to $35,000 for a person to have a dog that’s trained for their disability.
