2026 Roland Garros Men's Qualifying Brainstorm: Full Bracket Thoughts & Storylines

In contrast to a traditional preview, I tried to verbalize my thought process behind my Roland Garros men's qualifying brackets, something I've been doing since I came across 2 qualifier prediction tweets for every Grand Slam 4 years ago. Since I couldn't come up with 16 names without imagining, I imagined various scenarios (and storylines), considering various factors. Again, I'm neither a player nor a coach, but I'd like to share my observations, what I thought were possible storylines, and the way I saw the entire draw; thus, I'd rather call this episode a brainstorm. By the way, I've been covering the Challenger Tour and other lower-tier circuits as a fan, so if you enjoy the podcast or the overall work, I have a support link. No pressure at all, but it would help support this project. * Ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/stateofsport211 * Buy me a coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/stateofsport211 Episode notes: 0:00 Intro (how Slam qualies work) 3:03 Origin story (of why I did the entire bracket) 4:14 Disclaimer 5:41 Section 1 9:48 Section 2 13:33 Section 3 17:48 Section 4 22:20 Section 5 26:41 Section 6 29:03 Section 7 32:59 Section 8 36:58 Section 9 39:57 Section 10 43:30 Section 11 46:38 Section 12 51:20 Section 13 56:28 Section 14 1:01:15 Section 15 1:06:55 Section 16 1:12:39 Closing

Absolute Bangers: Juan Manuel Cerundolo's Bordeaux Epic, Djere's Return, Choinski Nears T100 & More

In the second week of Rome (1000), 7 ATP Challenger tournaments filled the "void" (of the 2-week Masters 1000), 2 of them were the 175s. How epic were the Bordeaux and Valencia Challengers this year, and how classic was Juan Manuel Cerundolo's final against Raphael Collignon at the former? How about how close Jan Choinski was to the Top 100 debut, thanks to his Zagreb Challenger title, and the return of Laslo Djere in the Oeiras 4 Challenger? Dive deep into the journeys of the week through this episode: it was an absolute banger of a week. They Might Be Back: S. Kwon & F. Diaz Acosta's Titles, Hemery Ends the Wait, Youngsters Rising & More

Despite looking like a slow week minus the cancelled Prague Challenger, it turned out to be another week of milestones: both Soonwoo Kwon and Facundo Diaz Acosta joined Pavel Kotov in the list of players winning 3 Challenger titles this year after winning the Wuxi and Francavilla al Mare Challengers, respectively. How about Calvin Hemery, whose 3-hour final was worth the wait for his long-awaited second career Challenger title? How did Franco Roncadelli's maiden Challenger singles title mean, as well as the youngsters competing at both Tour and Challenger-level tournaments last week? Follow this episode to check on their journeys from that week. Small correction: Brandon Perez/Franco Ribero won the Brazzaville Ch doubles title against Michael Geerts/Skander Mansouri 6-3, 6-4. Their maiden Ch title together (first in any sector). I have mistaken one of the semis as the finals instead, apologies. At Last: Alejandro Tabilo & Matteo Arnaldi's 175 Titles, Coleman Wong's 1st Challenger Title & More

The first of two packed Challenger weeks in May 2026 brought a series of long-awaited moments, highlighted by 175-point titles for Alejandro Tabilo and Matteo Arnaldi, as well as Coleman Wong finally breaking through by winning his maiden Challenger title. Alongside Gauthier Onclin's Abidjan sweep, this episode unpacks the journeys that defined the week. When Stories Collide: Sergey Fomin Shymkent King, Soonwoo Kwon's Comeback, Generational Duels & More

What initially looked like another slow week turned out to have one of the bigger storylines as a perfect warm-up for the upcoming packed week, ranging from Sergey Fomin's second career Challenger title in Shymkent 1, Soonwoo Kwon's return with another title in Gwangju, and a lot of generational duels sampled from 3 matches across levels. Tune in to this episode to get a feel of how this week might look through these stories and what I have learned from those!
