Acerca de The Choral Voice

Singing is a such communal thing. In a time when the phrase “social distancing” has become common, finding creative ways to keep singing is more important than ever. This podcast will examine how to keep music in our lives no matter what is happening in the world around us. New episodes will be released at least once a week. While we may be Divided by Corona, we remain United in Song - Keep Singing!

Finding your Health - 009

Let me start off by saying…I believe I am feeling the same way many of you are right now. If you are feeling that your voice is betraying you right now, you are not alone. We are all feeling the same thing in one form or another. Now that we have that out of the way, what can we do about it? I hope you are not satisfied with just accepting the situation. I want to still improve! I have some suggestions…not all of them will work, but you can find the ones that do…and dump the ones that don’t. You are also encouraged to use these suggestions to spark your own individual ideas. The Power of Pressure - 008

Today’s episode is all about the magic of Semi-Occluded Vocal Tract Exercises and how they have changed my singing for the better. So what are SOVT’s? As the name implies, they are vocal exercises that somehow obstruct the airway. This could be anything from pursing the lips to a short piece of plastic that you hold in your mouth. Obstructing the airway helps to create additional pressure in the mouth. This build up of oral pressure above the vocal cords works to counter the increasing air pressure below the vocal cords. This means that the vocal cords have a helping hand in resisting the air from below, and don’t have to use unnecessary tension to handle the sudden gusts of pressure. iSingMag - https://www.isingmag.com/semi-occluded-vocal-tract-exercises/ CIVC - https://www.chicagovoicecare.com/
