Reeti has recently transitioned to cybersecurity and she brings 15 years of rich experience across IT and customer service. Reeti made her way back to Tech due to her love for working with computers. She has a great command over cloud computing environments and holds a number of AWS and Microsoft certifications. The episode begins with Reeti sharing how her daily mindfulness practice brings her calm and peace which are noticed at work as well. She emphasised the importance of meditation for cybersecurity professionals at all levels. Next, Reeti and Jalpa discuss how Reeti pivoted her career more than once; previously due to personal circumstances and more recently due to passion to work in a technical field. Reeti had a knack for Computer Science since her Computer Engineering and Informational Science degrees. Over Covid-19 pandemic, she made a transition back into computing, this time specialising in Cybersecurity. In Episode 3 of "Your passport to a cybersecurity career", host Jalpa interviews well known public speaking coach Emily Edgeley who has successfully pivoted her career more than once. Emily has an effective story telling style and depicts her career story in a beautiful way. Make sure to follow till the end to find out her advice on how to break into cybersecurity. She is a sought after public speaking coach for giving someone the confidence and tools to nail their work presentation or even take the stage for the first time. Synopsis: Emily starts with sharing that she studied Maths and picked up some skills which were useful in cybersecurity roles realising when looking back retrospectively. She wasn't aware of the transferable skills at the time but some of the skills she learnt during initial call centre role such as analytical skills, treating everyone with respect and communication. Next, Emily provides valuable tips for a job seeker on landing interviews and excelling in hiring the process. Emily highlights the role of mentor to help cybersecurity aspirants to connect the dots between their transferable skills and how they can add value to the cybersecurity role(s). Lastly, Emily covers how important it is to hire based on the attitude and soft skills; not entirely based on technical skills.
