Episode 15 - Boyd White Part Two

itunes pic [https://assets.podomatic.net/ts/64/03/42/seanedwardwatkins/1400x1400_9259315.jpg] Boyd is back for a second go! Who should the audience of comic books be today? Should they be for young people or old farts? Have comic book writers lost the essence of characters who were created in the 1930s? Can we live in a world where multiple versions of comics exist for different audiences? Boyd drops his knowledge bombs on us once again and walks us through the basic histories of DC and Marvel comics. Part two ends with a discussion about the future of our collections after we pass away. What are we going to do with all of this stuff? Listen in folks - this is a good one. Episode 14 - Boyd White Part One

itunes pic [https://assets.podomatic.net/ts/64/03/42/seanedwardwatkins/1400x1400_9259315.jpg] We are back! Did you miss the podcast? This week, Sean interviews Boyd White. Boyd is a friend, a mentor, a scholar, and most importantly, a collector. He is the type of person who can easily talk to you for three hours about the merits of a 19th century detective/werewolf novel. His brain is a vault of popular culture knowledge that could easily compete with Google searches. In this first section of the podcast, the two discuss the serious art of collecting. Boyd talks about his first love, comic books, and how his parents had a chance to buy 5 Spider-Man number one comics for $500 dollars each. We discuss how his collection evolved from comic books to incredibly rare novels and comic strip art. As he explains, comic strip artwork is fascinating because the best artists of the early 20th century created incredibly detailed strips that could never possibly translate well into print. The original artwork is sought after because it is so unique and beautiful. Boyd also explains how the internet has changed the rarity of collectable items. Part one ends with the types of comic strip art that catches his eye. This is a great podcast for those of you who love pop culture and collecting. Download now!

Episode 13 - Sean Watkins

itunes pic [https://assets.podomatic.net/ts/64/03/42/seanedwardwatkins/1400x1400_9259315.jpg] We strip it down this week at The Sisyphus Effect Podcast and my life partner interviews me! I guess that the number 13 really is an unlucky number. Deborah talks to me about my growing up in a small town, about our future kids and about my family. You will get to learn a lot about who the man behind the mic is. I hope to do several more podcasts about myself because, as you all know, I am kind of an important person. So, enjoy another family episode (not to be confused with family friendly because I swear all the time). Download us The Sisyphus Effect Podcast on iTunes or catch it here: http://thesisyphuseffectpodcast.podomatic.com/ Keep listening and I will keep making them!

Episode 12 - Bobb Watkins

itunes pic [https://assets.podomatic.net/ts/64/03/42/seanedwardwatkins/1400x1400_9259315.jpg] The amazing thing about technology is that one can capture a moment in time (or at least as long as the medium holds out) and listen to it over and over again. The voices of those who were close to you are made static and yet, if you pay close attention, you hear different things every time you play it. In 2008, I was fortunate enough to record my father for a school project about folklore artists. Dad was a well known figure in the community and one of his main passions was music. With a collection of thousands of records, tapes and cds, he created elaborate mixed cassette tapes for friends and the community. As a child, I remember watching dad spend hours in the "music room" crafting the perfect mixes and combinations of modern and oldies music. If you love music and want to learn more about the art of the mixed tape, this is a must listen. Download it on Monday (early birds can download it on Saturday)! Episode 11 - Bryan Nance

itunes pic [https://assets.podomatic.net/ts/64/03/42/seanedwardwatkins/1400x1400_9259309.jpg] This week on the show, we have Bryan Nance who is an expert in college admissions and his mission in life is to encourage and support students of color throughout their collegiate journey. We originally recorded an amazing show with him describing his experiences within college admissions, but the recoding got messed up. So, we had to start over! For this this podcast we decided to discuss our mutual love of comic books and the current world of super heroes. We talk about rebooting super hero stories, the appeal of digital books, appropriate comic books for young people, and representations of race.
