About Versions
Versions is the podcast that explores truth versus the human perspective. In each episode, you'll relive an event through the first-hand accounts of key witnesses. Produced by WCPO Journalists, we focus on the real-life storytellers and their versions of the story. We never let an outside narrator get in the way. In the end, you decide the truth.
Heroin in the heartland
In the late summer of 2016, an explosion of heroin overdoses and deaths hit the Tri-State. In just four days, 174 people overdosed in Hamilton County, and people were dying within an instant of shooting up. The entire community was teetering on a deadly edge, with addicts failing to heed the desperate warning coming from the coroner. In the end, we would learn that a fatal combination of synthetic additives fentanyl and carfentanil were to blame. Versions looks back at the crisis through the eyes of Crystal Cook, a recovering heroin addict, Chris Conners, the director of the Northern Kentucky Drug Strike Force and 9 on Your Side I-Team investigative reporter Hillary Lake.
