Resilience is often seen as toughness, but what if it’s really about adaptation, healing, and growth? In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Eranda Jayawickreme, a psychology professor at Wake Forest University specializing in post-traumatic growth, to explore how hardship shapes resilience—and why it’s not always guaranteed. We discuss the science behind resilience, the role of intention and community in the healing process, and why creating space for reflection is essential in navigating trauma. Sisterhood In Bloom

Cycy, as the youngest member of the Next-Gen Committee, covers this year's 2024 Haitian Ladies Weekend, organized by the Haitian Ladies Network. This year's theme "Nou Se Wozo," roughly translates to "We are weeds," meaning 'we bend, but we don't break.' The weekend featured speakers like Haitian-Italian fashion designer Stella Jean, actress Garcelle Beauvais, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus McCormick, and many others. She highlights voices she heard leading up to and at the event, including a conversation with 17-year-old Josephine, with whom she formed a quick friendship because of the event. Introducing... Above The Fray: At The Crossroads of Culture

At a time when the world is confronting complex and unprecedented crises as someone living at the intersection of different cultures, I seek to elevate the voices of the youth above the fray, focusing on the issues we face at the crossroads of cultures. I introduce my new limited series about Haiti, diving into the complexities of resilience and growth.

The Thing About Culture...

Cycy goes over what culture means to the students and teachers in her community and how culture influences how we behave in an attempt to further define and expand the third culture kid experience and what it means to be a third culture kid in this space and at this time. She seeks to enlarge the description of third-culture kids by noting the socio-economic, racial, and cultural differences amongst those who may consider themselves third-culture kids.
