Jordan Belfort founded Stratton Oakmont in 1989. It became the largest over-the-counter firm in the United States. Stratton Oakmont at one point employed over 1,000 stock brokers and was involved in stock issues totaling more than $1 billion.

Bernie Madoff: The Billion Dollar Scammer

Bernard Lawrence "Bernie" Madoff was an American financier who executed the largest Ponzi scheme [https://www.investopedia.com/terms/p/ponzischeme.asp] in history, defrauding thousands of investors out of tens of billions of dollars over the course of at least 17 years, and possibly longer. He was also a pioneer in electronic trading and chair of the Nasdaq in the early 1990s. He died in prison on April 14, 2021 while serving a 150-year sentence for money laundering, securities fraud and several other felonies.
