This exquisite French dessert is a custard made up of a mixture of vanilla-infused cream, egg yolks, and sugar that is crowned with a perfectly torched sugar crust...most people assume creme brulee was invented by the French...but it was around since medieval times...the French just perfected it! In medieval times...Crema Catalana, a custard topped with caramelized sugar, is reportedly served regularly in Spain. Then by the 1400's Burnt cream dessert — branded with the official college crest on top — begins to be served at Trinity College in Cambridge, England...but the first printed version of the creme brulee appeared in a 1691 edition of a French cookbook...hence the credit to the French. It's all about the sugar crack!
