Bozeman United Methodist Church Sermon Podcast
What does faith look like when life no longer makes sense? In this opening sermon from The Comforting Whirlwind, Pastor Zach begins a journey through the book of Job—a story that makes room for grief, anger, doubt, protest, and the questions we are often afraid to say aloud. Job’s suffering is not punishment, and his faithfulness does not protect him from pain. When his world falls apart, Job does not pretend everything is okay or search for an easy explanation. He grieves openly, sits among the ashes, and continues reaching toward God. This sermon challenges fearful and transactional understandings of faith, reminding us that God’s grace is not something we earn through good behavior. Faith does not promise that terrible things will never happen. It promises that suffering cannot separate us from God’s love. Sometimes faith does not rise triumphantly from the ashes. Sometimes faith simply sits there—and discovers that grace has come to sit beside us.
