I am the Light of the World.

This Sunday, Pastor continues his series in John and picks up in John 8:12: "Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'” Jesus said these words not to make some abstract metaphor, but an attestation as to who he is as the one who fulfills Old Testament revelation and the Feast of Tabernacles.

This Sunday’s sermon will look at the remaining verses of John 7. The text points to divisions among the Jewish people over Jesus. As disciples of Christ, we still see divisions today. We should expect them. They existed when Jesus walked on earth. Pastor's sermon from John 7:40–52 calls us to take up our cross and follow Jesus, even when that confession means that we, like our Savior, are divided from others.

The Messiah at the Feast of Booths

This Sunday, we begin the seventh chapter of John. The events in this chapter occur about six months after the events in John 6, before the Feast of Booths. The Jewish hostility to Jesus continues to increase. The various responses to Jesus confront us again with our own response to the Lord.

Is this the Christ?

In the message this Sunday, John directs our attention to the varied responses of the Jews to Christ. Jesus must confront both popular ideas about the coming Messiah and the Jewish leaders' hostile aggression toward him. Each interaction between Jesus and the Jews is loaded with irony. We must weigh for ourselves: is this man the Christ? Amidst this, Jesus speaks a dire warning. If we reject him, we reject the one who sent him. So men reject Christ at their peril.
