Office Max and stale doughnuts
We start by talking about how often Luke closes the diner then move to talk about diner style restaurant as a whole and their relative decline in the United States. Abby then vigorously defends her caffeine addiction. We question why Michel would go to a diner every day. We consider whether Dean’s reaction to finding out about the accident with Rory’s Car was to much or actually was a tame reaction. We talk about both the story of Nanook of the North, and The Wind Done Gone with Simon assuring that Gone with the Wind is historically inaccurate . Simon then reminisces about Office Max and how it has changed since 2002. We look at the continuing theme of Jess being blamed entirely for the car accident and everyone being patronizing to Rory. We discuss the decline of music stores, and question Carol King’s cultural background and her character Sophies own cultural background to explain her charity to Lane later. Both of us engage in fan canoning on whether Babette was a Hari Krishna. Simon and Abby discuss Richard’s reasons for wanting Lorelai to be his secretary, suggesting it is sentimental even if it is a bit ridiculous. Simon explains the plot of the movie The Jazz Singer. We end with a massive freakout by Abby about the Donuts Luke allowed Lorelai to eat at the end.
BONUS EPISODE
HAPPY ONE AND A HALF YEAR ANNIVERSARY! We decided to watch three of the movies mentioned in episode 219 impromptu and give you our impressions on them. The movies are Suspense, Arctic Flight, and Killer Shark. We decide which one would have been fine to do instead of The Yearling. Also we talk about the Yearling as a piece of literature.
219 He is just a Kid.
1. 219 He’s A Kid. We start with Simon on a extensive digression about the work Slaughter House Five and its influence on pop culture. Then we talk about Lorelai annoying totally not miser Taylor into getting to lead the Stars Hollow Movie Festival, and discuss the various actual movies that they it turns out can show. We then as non parents totally have great advice on how to act as a parent to a teenager you have guardianship over. We debate whether Star Hollow has poor academic standards. Abby then disappoint Simon with her enthusiasm for chocolate syrup in brownies. Both of us are in agreement that Rory could decide to agree to tutor Jess. Simon has a digression about Akira Kurosowa, with Simon telling people to go to Barnes and Noble. At several points we find inconsistencies in the design of Star’s Hollow with past episodes information. Then Simon says Jess should have taken out whatever animal got in the way of the car. Simon then goes into a extended conversation about Noah Wylie, his career and cannot remember the name of his show The Pitt. We talk about how Lorelai has Emily like reaction to the Jess and the Rory accident. And we agree Jess should be overall be given the benefit of the doubt as he is a kid. Both Abby and Simon go on a extended discussion of how did Christopher successfully attempt a seemingly gravity defying stunt. We near the end of the episode by having a extensive obsessive deconstruction of Kirk’s film, “A Film by Kirk.”
218 Omelet's and Business
218 Omelets and Business We start with our dinner witgh a fine omelet; that Loreali might request some modifications on. We then move to talking about about the issues of Richard and not having not have anything to do. Then we move on to Rory and her treatment of Dean which we question if Rory showing disrespect for Dean, and how he should be able to meet her in Luke’s diner as based on previous episode we now its between route from his house to Stars Hollow High. It should be Dean and Rory’s relationship will be a continuous subject. We move to the main point of the episode: the Chilton econ class main project. We discuss the reasons apparently no ones parent can act as an advisor and note how Louise’s father is apparently in court and we speculate if he was caught up in the accounting scandals of the early 2000s. In related matters speculate on Brads denomination of Judaism and how Paris could attack him for that. Our conversation then moves to questioning whether Michel is from Quebec or France based on talk of his mother “coming down”. We look at Richard having to be talked by Emily into helping Rory. Abby also insists she is not Napoleon. We talk about the product ideas they went with the project agree a first aid kit would sell. We talk about when Dean goes too far involving trying to keep relationship with Rory working and how Lorelai talks him down. We discuss Michel’s very crazy diet tendencies.
