The concern was obvious: a lengthy, unscripted interrogation would force him to explain years of questionable decisions, including why he stayed at Epstein’s Manhattan home after Epstein had already been convicted of sex offenses. Andrew ignored those warnings, apparently believing that directly confronting the allegations would clear his name and allow him to move past the scandal. Instead, the November 2019 Newsnight interview became a catastrophic act of self-destruction. Andrew’s Pizza Express alibi, his claim that a medical condition had prevented him from sweating, his suggestion that the photograph of him with Virginia Giuffre might have been manipulated, and his apparent lack of sympathy for Epstein’s victims generated widespread disbelief and ridicule.
