FROMHERE
In Episode 8 of the FROMHERE Podcast, Vanessa sits down with Dr. Peggy Shaughnessy to explore her profound impact on Peterborough and beyond. From giving her cell phone to those in need as a first step of trust, to working directly with prisoners at Warkworth Prison, Dr. Shaughnessy shares her unique approach to healing that prioritizes connection, choice, and compassion. They discuss the effectiveness of mandatory rehabilitation programs, the importance of supporting the families of those struggling, and how transformation begins when individuals are ready to work on themselves. Dr. Shaughnessy’s journey began with her firsthand experience in the justice system and led to founding Whitepath Consulting and creating the RedPath Model—an emotional and social competency-based approach to healing. She co-founded Right to Heal, a grassroots initiative addressing Peterborough’s opioid crisis, and for 15 years ran the Whistle Stop Café, a space of dignity and connection for the community. Now working toward her Ph.D., Dr. Shaughnessy continues to advocate for change, support Indigenous people, and create healing ripples across Canada. Tune in for an inspiring conversation about trust, community, and the power of being there for others.
