Hatrack with Hannah
In today’s episode of Hatrack with Hannah, we dive deep into "The Split"—that overwhelming experience when our roles, tasks, hats, and emotional responsibilities all overlap at once. From the mental exhaustion of trying to be in two places at once to the "icky" feeling of failing at everything, we’re exploring why multitasking is a trap and how to protect our daily energy. If you’ve ever felt like you hit a "stuck point" or burned out trying to please everyone, this conversation offers a four-step roadmap for creating intentional boundaries and reclaiming your presence. Key Themes * Defining "The Split" & Its Two Types: The Split is a systems issue, not a personal failure. It happens in two ways: Physical Splitting (multitasking through overlapping tasks) and Emotional Role Splitting (switching identities without a mental reset). Splitting leaves you feeling fragmented, present nowhere, and like you're failing everywhere. * Planning with "Battery Capacity" in Mind: Planning is a nervous system support tool. Use time-blocking and create plans A, B, and C to stay flexible. Most importantly, schedule your day based on your energy battery, not just your time. If your energy hits 40%, give yourself permission to push non-essential tasks to tomorrow. * The Power of Absolute Presence: True presence means mentally, emotionally, and energetically arriving where your body physically is. It requires unlearning the societal urge to always anticipate the next step. Focus improves and your nervous system finds safety when you slow down and ask: "What does this moment actually need from me right now?" * Filtering Overwhelm with Grace: Stop measuring your worth by your productivity—you do not have to earn rest by burning out first. When your plans completely unravel, filter the pressure by asking: What do I need right now? What can wait? Am I responding from pressure or care? * Mastering Conscious Transitions: Emotional exhaustion comes from carrying "emotional residue" from one role straight into the next. To stop work stress from spilling into family time, build intentional buffer pieces—like a 5-minute car reset, changing clothes, or taking 5 deep breaths—to signal to your brain that it is safe to shift gears.
