Episode 96: Women's History Month - Maria Sabina and Working with Psilocybin as a Woman

Kate and I honor Maria Sabina during Women's History Month as a Shamanic Pioneer. Born in 1894, she dedicated her life to spiritual healing through the sacred practice of psilocybin mushroom ceremonies. Her teachings and ceremonies were transformative experiences that opened the gates of the mind for many. As licensed Psilocybin Facilitators in Oregon, Kate and I recognize the powerful impact of psilocybin in addressing mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and PTSD as well as supporting positive transformation for those seeking creativity, connection to life, love, and an overall transcendent experience to discover ones higher purpose. Please know that Maria Sabina's legacy is essential in this conversation, as she courageously shared her knowledge with the world. It is also important to know that while Maria Sabina’s practices gained attention of the Western world, they also led to painful consequences. Due to her opening the door to Westerners to Psilocybin, she faced betrayal, exploitation, and vilification in her own community. Her story sheds light on the challenges of cultural appropriation and the need for respectful recognition of indigenous wisdom. Without Maria Sabina’s willingness to share her sacred rituals and knowledge, the current movement around psilocybin, or psilocybin renaissance, would not be possible.
