This Land is My Yard

You've walked past them. The birdbath balanced on a tree stump. The chainsaw-carved mascot. The rusted farm equipment standing sentinel at a property line. The toilet (yes, the toilet) overflowing with wisteria. We call it yard art. But it's something older than that. In this episode, we take a walk through one neighborhood and discover that every repurposed object on every lawn is making the same argument: I belong to this place, and this place belongs to me. It's often used to indicate an indeterminate time in the future, as in "Call on me again in a fortnight." Incidentally, it is correctly spelled the way I spelled it.
