INTRO Here's the thing. We are living in a season where exposure ministries are everywhere and cancel culture has snuck its way right into the body of Christ. I sat down with my dear sister Deidra Hughes, who grew up around names like Oral Roberts and Jim and Tammy Bakker and later traveled with Benny Hinn, sitting on the platform for six hour services with the cameras always rolling. She has seen ministry from the inside. She has watched leaders fall. And she has watched the church respond in ways that look nothing like Jesus. This is not a conversation about whether accountability matters. It does. This is a conversation about the spirit behind how we are doing it, and whether reconciliation or reputation is actually the goal. We also get into something that wrecked me a little. What is actually blocking your intimacy with God right now. Not what you think it is. FEATURED QUOTE "You have now made a platform out of deplatforming others." Deidra Hughes KEY TAKEAWAYS Exposure without relationship is not ministry. It is judgment wearing ministry's clothes. If you have not walked with someone, prayed with them, spoken two words to them, you were never given the authority to put them before the whole body. Curiosity comes before judgment. Every time. Ask the person what they meant before you decide what they meant. Deidra said it plainly. Approach with curiosity so you are not sizing someone up off a soundbite. Money is almost always at the center of cover up. When decisions start getting made around what keeps the giving flowing instead of what Holy Spirit is saying, that is the crack the enemy walks through. Yes people will destroy a leader faster than any public scandal. Surround yourself with people who will call you out and celebrate you in the same breath. The secret place is not optional. Deidra heard the Lord ask her a question that I have not stopped thinking about. What blocks intimacy. For her it is research and digging into the Word, good things, but not the same as sitting still with the Father. For me it is a walk at night where I finally stop talking long enough to let Him talk. We do not throw the baby out with the bathwater over one point of disagreement. You can sit under a teacher's gifting and still hold a different conviction on one issue. Honor where people are on the journey. BIBLE VERSE "Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted." Galatians 6:1, KJV "Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee, leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way, first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift." Matthew 5:23-24, KJV CALL TO ACTION If you have watched a leader fall and it rattled your faith, this episode is for you. If you have ever been the one forming an opinion off a two minute clip, this episode is for you too. Go listen to the full episode now. Sit with it. Then get honest with yourself about your own secret place. What is really blocking your intimacy with Jesus right now. Share this episode with a sister who needs to hear it. Tag us.
