Let's be honest
In a world dominated by cancel culture and a refusal to hear other points of view, there’s very few chances to dive deep into the debates and trends shaping the world. That’s why we’ve decided to launch our own podcast series, where we delve deeper into the political, societal, and cultural realities of today. We aim to question prevailing narratives and explore the processes behind them. All the conversations will be open, interesting and featuring perspectives outside the mainstream. In our first episode, we sat down with Katalin Deme, a Senior Research Fellow at MCC Brussels. We discussed what Deme calls the “neolanguage” of the EU. Although some of you may immediately associate this term with Orwell’s “newspeak”, in our context, it refers to a set of newly formed words and expressions created with the aim of fostering a new European identity supported by language. Phrases such as “United in Diversity” or “Climate Change” exemplify this phenomenon. The conversation focuses, among other things, on: * its formation and historical background * examples of its use in everyday life * the future of political correctness We hope you will enjoy it! This is a public episode.
