The NCAA’s new 5-year eligibility rule has a lot of college basketball fans confused and USC women’s basketball fans have real questions. Does this mean players can now play five full seasons? What happens if a player gets hurt? Are redshirts really going away? And how could this change roster building for USC WBB? In this video, I break it down in simple basketball terms: Old rule: 5 years to play 4 seasons. New rule: 5-year eligibility window, with players potentially able to play all 5 seasons. We also look at what this could mean for Juju Watkins, current NCAA players, future recruiting classes, the transfer portal, high school players, AAU, and how USC women’s basketball may have to manage roster spots moving forward. This rule could help programs keep experienced players longer, but it could also make roster math tighter for freshmen, transfers, and future recruiting classes.
