Light And Incense Podcast
Thanks for watching the Light and Incense Podcast! We hope this episode was informative and provided a meaningful learning experience. Episode Description: As the early church begins to grow, it moves from the Upper Room into the streets of Jerusalem and eventually to the ends of the earth. In this second episode of our third season, "The Gospel Crossing Borders," our hosts are joined by special guest Michael Mossaad from the Church of St. Peter and St. George in Westlake, Ohio. Together, they journey through Acts 3–8 to explore how the Holy Spirit empowered the apostles to face conflict, establish order, and carry the message of Christ to diverse nations. They discuss the "road map" of the Book of Acts—moving from Jerusalem to Judea, Samaria, and beyond—and how Christ continues to work through His body, the Church. In this video, we discuss: Miracles in the Name of Jesus: Examining the healing of the lame man at the Gate Beautiful and how St. Peter’s reliance on the authority and name of Jesus—rather than his own power—serves as the model for all Christian ministry. Conflict and the Hardness of Heart: Analyzing why the same miracles that brought thousands to faith also incited hostility in religious leaders, reflecting on how pride and the fear of losing authority can prevent one from accepting the light of truth. Integrity and the Fear of God: Reflecting on the "scandal" of Ananias and Sapphira, emphasizing that God desires authenticity rather than "pretended holiness" or the appearance of sacrifice without the reality. The Role of Service and Order: Discussing the selection and ordination of the first seven deacons, exploring how the apostolic laying on of hands ensures that the Church's social services and liturgical life remain Spirit-led and orderly. The Seeds of Growth through Martyrdom: Exploring the life and martyrdom of St. Stephen, the first martyr, and how God used the subsequent persecution to scatter the faithful and multiply the preaching of the Word. The Gospel for All Nations: Following the movement of the Gospel as it reaches the first recorded African convert, the Ethiopian eunuch, and eventually arrives in Egypt through the mission of St. Mark the Apostle. Series: The Book of Acts Following our exploration of Christ’s identity in the "I AM" series, we now examine how that identity is lived out through the movement of the Holy Spirit in the early church. This series reveals that the Book of Acts has no end, as the Spirit continues to work through the faithful today to "turn the world upside down".
