Equality

In a land there was a tyrant king. During the reign of that king, there was a cruel practice of burning girl children. A young boy named Mo was disturbed by this scene. He believed everyone should be treated equally in society. He remembered God’s word; All are equal. Mo decided to speak against this injustice. Standing up to the elders in the society and boldly declaring that girls have the right to live and work like men. He called for an end to the barbaric practice of killing girls. Amazed at Mo’s bravery, the elders dismissed him as mad. They argue that women are a financial burden, unable to lead society. But Mo was discouraged. If everyone’s mother died in childhood, how would they be born? He warns them that if they do not stop their inhuman activities and do not give proper respect to women, he will apply a powerful spell called “Gajab”. Gajab is considered a force of nature that can bring disasters such as storms, ice and sleet, which can cause something to boil over. Fearing this threat, elders agreed to change their ways and started giving women and children equal opportunities. But it is one thing on paper and different in reality. Mo continued his fight for equality. He believed that one day men and women would have equal ownership of land and houses. Author’s note: A reader will likely understand the text with at least an 8th-grade education (age 13-14), and it should be pretty easy for most adults to read.

গৌতম বুদ্ধ

একবার গৌতম বুদ্ধ তাঁর কয়েকজন অনুসারী নিয়ে ভ্রমণ করছিলেন । পথে এক হ্রদ পড়লে বুদ্ধ তাঁর শিষ্যদের একজনকে বললেন, "আমি তৃষ্ণার্ত। আমার জন্য হ্রদ থেকে কিছু পানি আনো।" শিষ্য হ্রদে গিয়ে পৌঁছানো মাত্র একটি গরুর গাড়ি হ্রদ অতিক্রম করতে শুরু করে। ফলে পানিতে ঘূর্ণন ওঠে এবং তা কর্দমাক্ত হয়ে যায়। শিষ্য ভাবলো " এই পানি আমি বুদ্ধকে কী করে পান করতে দেব?" তাই তিনি ফিরে আসেন এবং বুদ্ধকে বলেন, "সেখানে পানি খুব ময়লা। এটা পান করার উপযুক্ত না ।"
