Joseph Chapman

In the final episode of this season of Making a Meharrian, Mr. Israel Thomas joins Dr. Theodora Pinnock to discuss the life and legacy of Joseph Chapman, M.D. After a near death experience, Dr. Chapman completed his undergraduate education at Fisk University and graduated from Meharry Medical College in 1926.  Dr. Chapman went on to establish Chapman hospital, organized an insurance company and served as Secretary of the Negro Chamber of Commerce. His will is still being carried out today at Meharry by a close relative which will be revealed in the episode.

Josie Wells

On this episode of Making a Meharrian, Ms. Sandra Martin-Parham joins Dr. Pinnock to share the story of Josie Wells, M.D. Dr. Wells is one of Meharry's most prominent figures. As the first female graduate of Meharry, she went on to become Meharry's first female faculty member and the served as the administrator the historic Hubbard Hospital. Join us on this journey as we learned what made this Meharrian.

Brandon Anamah

Despite coming from a single-parent home and being diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, Brandon Anamah started his freshman year on track to begin a career in medicine. His path seemed clear when he attended a pool party one evening, but before the night was over there would be one fatality and his own life would be hanging in the balance.

Jheanelle & Jheneal Atkinson

First-year medical students, Jheanelle & Jheneal Atkinson were pursuing careers in law until a fateful meeting with their Biology professor altered their paths. Despite many setbacks, the Atkinson sisters overcame many obstacles to become two of Meharry’s newest students. During this episode of Making a Meharrian, we will hear a story of perseverance.

Charles Summers

First-year medical student, Charles Summers did not come from ideal beginnings. During his childhood, he experienced unstable living conditions and had no intentions of pursuing a post-secondary education. However, after enlisting in the military, he has a new prospective on life and is pursuing his wildest dreams.
