Mealvana Endurance Podcast
A marathon two hours up the road turns 50 this year — and most Birmingham and Tuscaloosa runners have never run it. This episode makes the case for changing that. The Rocket City Marathon in Huntsville, Alabama is a cold December race (which means a long, forgiving training cycle), an indoor finish line, and a course that ends in a party. Race coordinator Rhonda Hayden joins us to walk through the course, the 50th-anniversary race weekend, and why it's one of the best first marathons or half marathons out there. Co-hosting is Mealvana Endurance Ambassador Landon Bruski — a junior at the University of Alabama whose very first half and very first full were both Rocket City, including the mile-20 wall that taught him fueling matters as much as training. We also share the free Rocket City race day nutrition plan we built with the race: enter your target pace and sweat profile, and it maps your carbs, fluid, and sodium to every aid station on the actual course. Free for every runner, marathon or half.
