Search phrases like "how do I know if something is a sign" or "why do I keep missing the signs" and you'll know exactly the ache we're naming today. You did everything right. You researched every option. You stayed three steps ahead. You carried the whole thing so nothing would fall. And then, when the good showed up anyway, you almost walked right past it. Then you turned around and blamed yourself. My car was smoking in the grocery store parking lot. I added oil, added coolant, and prayed the whole drive home. That same afternoon my sister mentioned a car I had never once considered, from a customer she happened to talk to at lunch. I almost dismissed it, after hundreds of hours of my own research. By that night I was driving it home. A top tier model for the price of a base model. The provision was there the whole time. I just had to stop being so sure of lack that I walked right past it. In this episode: * Why the meaningful life was never the loud one, it was the noticed one * The real reason you miss the good things sitting right in front of you * Is it a coincidence or a sign, and what statisticians actually say about it * How your brain quietly filters what you see, and how to aim it at the good * Why noticing, not the event itself, is where the whole shift happens * The one small practice that builds your evidence that you are held The real science. In 1999, researchers Daniel Simons and Christopher Chabris at Harvard University asked 228 people to watch a video and count basketball passes. A person in a full gorilla suit walked into the middle of the screen, faced the camera, and strolled off. Nearly half never saw it. They called it inattentional blindness. The gorilla was there the whole time. And in 1989, statisticians Persi Diaconis and Frederick Mosteller, both of Harvard University, named the Law of Truly Large Numbers in the Journal of the American Statistical Association. With a large enough sample, the outrageous thing is bound to happen. Coincidences are not rare. They are practically guaranteed. Carl Jung gave meaningful coincidence its name back in the 1920s. He called it synchronicity. The bottom line. The event is not the miracle. The noticing is. Two women get the same unlikely moment. One files it as random. One lets it land as evidence she is not alone. Same event. Completely different life. Your practice this week: The Evidence File. Once a day, catch one moment that felt arranged, and write it down. One or two sentences is all it takes. The text that came at the right time. The parking spot right out front. The stranger's comment that turned out to be exactly what you needed. Do it for one week and you will start seeing them everywhere. Not because more of them started happening. Because you finally stopped walking past them. New here? This is Part 2 of It Was Never a Coincidence, a four-part series for midlife women on loneliness, synchronicity, and learning to receive. Start with Part 1 on the hidden loneliness underneath over functioning. Then stay close for Part 3, the receiving deficit, why you can notice the gift and still not quite let yourself take it in. And you get to start noticing yours again. is it a coincidence or a sign, how do I know if something is a sign, synchronicity meaning, signs from the universe, why do I keep missing the signs, God is providing for me, the science of synchronicity, inattentional blindness invisible gorilla, law of truly large numbers, feeling alone and unsupported, learning to receive, expecting good, faith for midlife women, Frannie Dilley
