Beschreibung

One of the persistent themes here on Pieces to Wellness is that healing and health are journeys of change and growth. This means that we are also constantly adjusting, re-evaluating, and adapting to what's going on within and around us. This requires the ability to balance accountability and grace, easier said than done. So of course, we had to dig into the nitty gritty of how this shows up for us. Over-emphasizing accountability looks like rigid adherence to routines, structures, ideas, while overdoing it on grace can begin to resemble apathy, rendering us stagnant. Too much accountability is no fun, too much grace holds us back. Karen waxes poetic on the distinctions between contentment and complacence, effort and surrender. Ultimately, we strive to strike a balance in which our thinking and actions are not either/or, black/white. When we're in that sweet spot of accountability and grace, we hold space for joy and progress. And from there, the possibilities are limitless. Are you struggling with something? Episode Elevate With Anjali Cover

Elevate With Anjali

This week we are delighted to welcome Anjali Mehta onto Pieces to Wellness. Like us, Anjali lives in NY's Capital Region, though she works with clients all over the world. Anjali is a Conscious Life & Parenting Coach, Somatic Breathwork Practitioner, and Immersive Meditation Facilitator. We were drawn to her vulnerability, and openness that what she offers is based in her lived experience; it's not borrowed wisdom. Anjali describes what it means to work as a somatic breathwork facilitator, and how helping people breathe consciously helps people cultivate both attunement and alignment. We talk a lot here about living in alignment with our values and goals. Anjali describes attunement as the practice of bringing the self into the present moment. Right here, right now. Notice, where are your feet? Intentionally cultivating both attunement and alignment is an ongoing moment to moment practice. You know what else is an ongoing, moment to moment practice? Breathing. Most of us breathe unconsciously, and thank goodness we can trust our breath to be there for us. Cultivating the ability to breathe consciously, mindfully, that can be a game-changer. We also share some tips about pausing when triggered, getting past the mask of toxic positivity, and the big question, how can you make an aligned choice when you're not aware of/in alignment with your true self already? Which comes first?  To get in touch with Anjali, follow her on IG @elevate_with_anjali. Are you struggling with something? Or is there something you'd like to hear us discuss? Episode How To Handle Your Demons Cover

How To Handle Your Demons

This week we're getting down and dirty with our demons. Often, we hear people talk about fighting their demons. As usual, the Instigator and the Yogi start there and branch out to discuss other less-familiar perspectives. What would it look like to engage our demons in other ways? What are our demons anyway? In his book, Tim describes mental-emotional demons as "brain gremlins". In other circles they may be considered to be negative narratives, self-talk, or inner messaging that can be hard to ignore. We wonder, what if our gremlin-demons represent unmet needs or expectations? What if they contain valuable information or insights about our needs and priorities? And in that case, what if we listened to what our demons have to say? Karen shares that many of her inner demons once served to protect her from fear, including fear of failure. These demons created the illusions of safety and control. When we face our demons, and maybe even befriend them, how can that set us up for a fuller, better future? Some people choose to suppress them and we feel that can often encourage the demons. So we urge you to feed your demons with love and understanding, bring them into the light and out from the shadows. Maybe you can even unmask them or even, befriend them.  Learn more from our lived experience. Are you struggling with something? Or is there something you'd like to hear us discuss? Episode Does Love Rule? Cover

Does Love Rule?

This week's episode has been brought to you in the form of a question from the delightfully curious mind of the Instigator: Is love really all we need? Does love rule? In our usual roundabout way, your favorite dynamic duo dissect the enormous topic of love. We find it to be a huge variable in life and living a healthy lifestyle. It can be a catalyst in many ways. Love can motivate or inspire us just as much as it challenges us and sometimes feels elusive entirely. We talk a lot about how offering love and perceiving love don't necessarily resonate the same, and how this difference can impede our interpersonal relationships. In short, intention does NOT equal impact. Full stop. If love is more than good intentions, how can we love our neighbors as we love ourselves? What if we don't really love ourselves? That can be an especially difficult pill to swallow, and friends, it's the most important one. Because SELF-love, loving yourself first and most, is what it's all about. Start there, and you'll be setting yourself up for success. Are you struggling with something? Or is there something you'd like to hear us discuss? Episode IFS: A Conversation w/ Chani Getter Cover

IFS: A Conversation w/ Chani Getter

This week, we are honored to welcome Chani Getter to the show. Chani is a renowned psychotherapist, interfaith minister, and author of the book Mapito: Embrace Yourself.  One of the therapeutic modalities Chani uses with clients is IFS, Internal Family Systems, an approach developed by Dick Schwartz. IFS takes an integrative approach to therapy, emphasizing a strong body-mind connection, and the notion that our inner experience consists of various "parts". Sometimes these parts work together in our best interest, sometimes they are at odds with each other, often they are trying to protect us from real or imagined threats. Chani weaves together stories and metaphor (2 of our favorite things!) to illustrate what IFS is and how it looks in a therapeutic setting. It takes great trust and rapport between therapist and client to create a container both safe and brave enough for the transformative impact of IFS to take place. Chani reminds us that "the way we speak informs our thinking, and the way we feel informs our speech." Everything is connected, so tools that help us name our feelings like the Gottman Feeling wheel [https://www.gottman.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/The-Gottman-Institute_The-Feeling-Wheel.pdf], and apps like How We Feel [https://howwefeel.org/] can be a great place to start getting up close and personal with your inner parts.  To learn more about Chani's offerings visit their website: https://chanigetter.com [https://chanigetter.com].  Where to buy Chani's book in the USA: https://store.bookbaby.com/Book/mapito [https://store.bookbaby.com/Book/mapito] Mapito is also available worldwide on Amazon or you can see more here: https://chanigetter.com/mapito [https://chanigetter.com/mapito]   Are you struggling with something?
