Beschreibung

There are moments in life that change everything. Moments when the future you imagined no longer feels certain. Moments when no amount of planning, effort, expertise, or determination can guarantee the outcome you hope for. In this episode, I sit down with my dear friend, physician, author, and mother Dr. Tasha Faruqui for a deeply moving conversation about what it means to keep going when life unfolds in ways you never expected. Together, we explore Tasha's family's journey navigating her daughter Soraya's rare medical condition, the lessons that emerged through profound uncertainty, and the courage it takes to release control when there are no easy answers. One of the themes that surfaced again and again in our conversation was surrender. Not as giving up, but as a practice. A way of relating differently to uncertainty. A way of releasing our grip on what we cannot control and learning how to stay present to what is. In Part 1 of this two-part conversation, we discuss: • What happens when life no longer follows the plan you imagined • Why releasing control can become a pathway to greater peace • The identities we hold and who we become when they begin to shift • How connection and sharing our stories help us feel less alone This conversation is for anyone navigating uncertainty, grief, caregiving, a major life transition, or a season that feels different from what you expected. Because sometimes the path forward is not found in controlling the outcome. It is found in learning how to keep going when you cannot. About Dr. Tasha Faruqui: Dr. Tasha Faruqui is a pediatrician, author, speaker, advocate, and mother of three. Her memoir, Keep Your Head Up: A Mother's Story of Chasing Joy in the Face of Grief, shares her family's journey navigating her daughter Soraya's rare disease while finding meaning, connection, and hope in the midst of uncertainty. Episode 60. Surrender: The Spiritual Practice High Performers Resist Most Cover

60. Surrender: The Spiritual Practice High Performers Resist Most

Surrender is one of the most powerful practices available to us. And also one of the most misunderstood. Many of us have been taught that surrender means giving up, lowering our standards, or becoming passive. But what if surrender is actually an act of courage? In this episode, we explore surrender through the lens of neuroscience, psychology, ancient wisdom traditions, and lived experience. We examine why our attachment to control often creates more stress, anxiety, and suffering, and how learning to let go can open the door to greater peace, presence, and personal power. Because peace is not found by controlling everything around us. It is found by changing our relationship to what we cannot control. In this episode, we cover: • Why surrender is not giving up, but a pathway to deeper inner power • How surrender helps move us from stress and survival mode into peace and flow • What ancient wisdom traditions and modern psychology teach about letting go • Why resistance often creates more suffering than the challenge itself • A simple practice you can use to begin surrendering today Chapters: 00:00 What Surrender Really Means 08:53 Why Surrender Takes Courage 20:55 How Surrender Changes the Brain and Nervous System 24:57 How to Practice Surrender in Everyday Life 28:53 The Invitation to Let Go 28:57 What's Next on The Authentic Path Whether you are navigating uncertainty, pursuing a meaningful goal, facing a difficult season, or simply feeling overwhelmed by life, this episode offers a different path forward. One rooted not in gripping tighter, but in learning to trust. Because sometimes the greatest source of strength is not holding on. It is knowing when to let go. 59. How I Stay Calm in High-Pressure Moments

This episode is about grounding yourself before high pressure moments. Not by pretending stress does not exist… but by learning how to regulate your nervous system, reconnect to yourself, and move through life more intentionally. In this episode, Dr. Vanessa Calderón shares the simple grounding ritual she personally uses before clinical shifts, speaking engagements, important meetings, and other stressful moments. Because success without grounding often becomes dysregulation. But success with grounding becomes intentional, aligned, and sustainable. In this episode, we cover: • Why most people live reactively instead of intentionally • How four-by-four breathing regulates the nervous system and lowers stress • Why gratitude helps retrain the brain away from chronic stress and hypervigilance • The power of intentionality and how it shapes performance under pressure • How small, consistent practices create lasting transformation Chapters: 00:00 Introduction to Grounding Rituals 02:33 Understanding Grounding and Its Importance 06:14 The Drive-In Ritual: A Personal Story 08:04 Step 1: Four by Four Breathing Technique 11:20 Step 2: Practicing Gratitude 15:29 Step 3: Setting Intentions 18:43 The Power of Consistent Practice 19:41 What’s Next If you have been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, or constantly “on,” this episode will give you a simple practice to help you feel more grounded, calm, and present in your everyday life. 58. The Underdog Advantage: What the Best Teams Know About Leadership and Growth

This episode is about the power of the underdog. Not just in sports… but in leadership, business, and the way teams rise together. In this episode, we explore the psychology behind some of the most iconic underdog stories in sports history, including Hoosiers, the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team, Leicester City, Villanova basketball, and the Golden State Warriors. Because success is not always about having the most talent. Sometimes it is about belief. Sometimes it is about trust. Sometimes it is about building a culture where people know they belong. In this episode, we cover: • Why belief and belonging can change performance under pressure • How great leaders build team identity instead of individual ego • The connection between trust, psychological safety, and high-performing teams • Why clear roles create better focus, execution, and decision-making • How joy, culture, and shared purpose create lasting success If you are building a business, leading a team, growing your career, or stepping into your next level, this episode will show you that greatness is rarely built alone. It is built through connection, clarity, trust, and the courage to believe before there is evidence. 57. How Elite Coaches Think: 5 Lessons on Leadership, Mindset, and Greatness

This episode is about leadership. Not just the kind that wins championships… but the kind that transforms people. In this episode, we explore the mindset, habits, and philosophies of five elite coaches: Phil Jackson, Dawn Staley, Greg Popovich, Jill Ellis, and Coach K, and what their leadership teaches us about growth, performance, resilience, and team culture.
