Reflect and Protect Podcast
We often talk about goals as something to achieve — something to reach, measure, and complete. But what if that’s not really their purpose? In this episode, we take a closer look at the first line of the adult pledge and explore the idea that goals are less about outcomes and more about orientation. Drawing on ideas from philosophy — from Aristotle’s concept of purpose through to Epictetus' focus on what we can actually control — we look at how direction shapes behaviour over time. Because the real value of a goal may not lie in whether you achieve it exactly as planned… …but in what the process of striving towards it turns you into.
