Release Day is an electronic music podcast and live event promoting FLINTA-BiPoC-migrant peoples’ artistry via in-depth interviews. Its extensive online network also serves as a hub and platform as its core intention—to create visibility—is backed up by impartment of knowledge and exchange of ideas. A true brainchild of the pandemic, Release Day is more than just an musicalized podcast though as each live edition is broadcasted from a different underground off-location respiring the artists´ spirits of resisting extinction. For our first live edition – made possible thanks to the Draußenstadt cultual fonds of the city council of Lichtenberg and with kind support of the Haubrok foundation - Release Day invites S_Ruston, one of the DJ residents of the legendary femme sex-postive Lecken collective and Wilde Renate. S_Ruston is an amazing vinyl spinning person with great producer skills. She talks us through the early stages of their career as well as the challenges she had to face being a bass DJ in the UK scene, gives an insight into her production and muses over the cultural relevance of artists. DJ Hot Bitch - cyber performer and singer, is a chaotic DJ and co-founder of the Widows Collective. Merging merciless and tender sounds with a nihilistic attitude towards genres, her music, videos, and DJ sets create an ecstatic high. Widows.de is a non-commercial, audiovisual, Berlin based collective that aims to bring the work of local, migrant and international queer FLINTA artists together - physically as well as in cyber. The activities of the collective concentrate on releasing audiovisual content, organising a broadcasting platform for DJs and curating collaborative projects and events. Having cultivated an audience for queer FLINTA DJs over the last year, the collective is getting ready to expand its programme to highlight emerging underground musicians and performers. Widows.de challenges the focus of the audience and tries to build a space of mutual support for FLINTA* artists and their causes, opposing alienation within the post-apocalyptic music scene.
