We are a group designed for SEND professionals working within the MENA region and offer an opportunity for professionals to share expertise, ideas, and experiences as well as ask questions, knowing that fellow professionals will respond respectfully. This forum will include discussions on: Dyslexia Dysgraphia ADHD ADD Autism Inclusion Inclusive Education Special Needs Learning Support SENCO Special Needs Coordinator Special Education Gifted and Talented Learning Disabilities Learning Disorder Teachers Training IEP This group will be operated within the sensibilities of the UAE Cyber Crime Law and would strongly encourage all members to familiarize themselves with the law, particularly Article 20, which references defamation. We are honored to have 6 expert Chairs for this group: 1) Ginette Moore Ginette has over 20 years' teaching experience and is a UK qualified SENCo, as well as holding an MEd and a Masters Degree in Special and Inclusive Education. She is Head of Inclusion at one of the most inclusive schools in Dubai, which meets the needs of a wide range of pupils including those with moderate and severe autism. 2) Galemarie Ola Galemarie became dedicated to the educating SEN students after mentorship from the SENCo at her first placement in Washington, DC, where she was an English teacher for five years. Since then, she has held leadership roles in SEN departments in the United States, Kuwait, and most recently in the UAE. 3) Julie Geissler Julie is the Primary Section SENCO and Head of Learning Support at the British International School of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Julie originally trained as a Primary teacher in the UK, but has worked most of her life in the Middle East (20 years) and South America (10 years). Julie has held key leadership roles as SENCO (14 years) and English Coordinator (10 years). 4) Nadine Hutchinson After qualifying as a primary teacher and working in the North East of England, I moved to Dubai in 2012. At the time, Safa was the only school prepared to offer my children (adopted from care and with additional needs) a school place so I have remained loyal to the Safa family and have continued to promote their inclusive ethos. 5) Taruna Khattar Taruna is renowned for her passionate work with the students of determination. With an experience spanning close to two decades after completing a double masters in psychology. She has been the Head of Inclusion at various schools, starting with JSS Private School, Springdales and currently with Ambassador Group of Schools. 6) Amal Hammad Amal is the SENCO of Gems AlKhaleej National School, an American curriculum school. With extensive experience and many qualifications in the special needs field, Amal is leading inclusive practices at her school with a majority of native Arabic speaking students. As schools are transitioning slowly to normal, many teachers might be wondering how to choose the most practical PDs to solidify their career while being time and cost effective. Whether it’s the unique experience and challenges COVID presented or the preparation for coming inspections, learning and growing are always key. This event is aimed at special needs and inclusion teachers, and classroom and subject teachers, who want to expand their knowledge and develop their practice through completing further courses and training. The Speaker: Ms Ginette Moore (Head of Inclusion at The Aquila School, Dubai) * Ginette has over 20 years' teaching experience and is a UK qualified SENCo, as well as holding an MEd and a Masters Degree in Special and Inclusive Education. * Through her school role, and through teaching the international SENCO and NASENCo qualifications with Real Training, Ginette enjoys coaching and supporting other teachers as they further develop their inclusive practice.

This special event for parents, a Q&A session with two of the foremost education specialists on dyslexia in the world, is geared towards parents, to discuss how and when to tell your child they have dyslexia or other related learning differences. Parents had the opportunity to ask questions and seek advice directly from the experts. Details on the event host, speakers. Event Host: Kirstie Clark (Mom of two kids with Dyslexia and a Deputy Head Teacher, Cambridge International School): I have been teaching for over eleven years now, teaching in a small school on the Isle of Wight, to a large multicultural school in London and finally Harlow in Essex. I have been in a leadership role for 10 years ranging from subject leader, Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and to Head of School. I moved to Dubai with my husband and three children as an Assistant Headteacher, and it has been a wonderful experience. I truly believe that all children should have the opportunity to learn and succeed no matter what barriers they may face, and I strive to share that vision with the whole school community. Every child has the potential to achieve and as teachers we should equip them with the skills to succeed in the future. I am delighted to be working at Cambridge International School as the Deputy Head of Early Years and Foundation Stages, as I know the school holds the same vision and values as I do. The Speakers: 1) Rebecca Good (Head Educational Psychologist, Eirim Assessment Center, Ireland) Rebecca Good is one of the founding directors of Éirim. Having grown up in a family of psychologists, Rebecca’s interest in the subject blossomed from an early age. Coupled with a keen interest in education and her teaching background, it was natural that Rebecca would follow the path of Educational Psychology. Now, with over 10 years experience in the field of psychology, assessment, and research, Rebecca is one of the most Senior Educational Psychologists at Eirim Assessment Center. Of course, Rebecca could never escape her passion for education and took on the role of Director of Training services where she spends much time creating and tutoring on Éirim’s professional development courses. 2) Neil MacKay (Inclusion Expert and Parents and Teachers’ Trainer, UK) Previously Senior Teacher/SENCO in a large secondary school in North Wales and now an independent consultant and trainer since 2000, Neil MacKay originated the phrase and the concept “Dyslexia Friendly Schools." Neil works closely with parents where he teaches parents how to support their children and home with aspects of reading, writing, spelling and learning for tests and exams, began in Liverpool and now has spread around the UK, Europe ,Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand. The unique feature of this approach is that parents are actually taught with their children and then supported to practice the techniques under Neil’s supervision.

The panel members are discussing executive functions for SEN students exploring practical classroom strategies to help teachers. GESS awards 2019 for best initiatives in inclusion and well being. Dr Neha Sharma (Head of Quest (Inclusion) and Associate Senior Leader, Dwight School Dubai, BPS Qualified Assessor) * Dr Sharma was rated as an ‘Exceptional’ Head of Inclusion by KHDA during their inspections in 2018. * Under her leadership, the inclusion department won the 2nd best SEND team in the UAE award by Education Journal Middle East Awards in 2017. * She is the recipient of the prestigious Prof. Indira Parikh Award for Women in Education Leaders organized by the World Education Congress in India in 2018. * Dr Sharma presented her research proposal at the UAE Graduate Students Research Conference in 2019. * Neha is passionate about setting up an exemplary Gifted Education Program at Dwight School. She will be soon completing her PhD in Gifted Education from the British University in Dubai

The Speakers: 1) Dr Bariah Dardari Dr. Bariah is a MD ABP ABIHM FAAP and a leading expert in child health, with more than 20 years experience. She established the first pediatric integrative medicine clinic in the UAE. 2) Neil MacKay Previously Senior Teacher/SENCO in a large secondary school in North Wales and now an independent consultant and trainer since 2000, Neil MacKay originated the phrase and the concept “Dyslexia Friendly Schools."
