Project Pan: The Social Media Trend You've Been Waiting For

There's a trend on BeautyTok that's the exact opposite of a haul. It's called Project Pan — and the whole goal is to actually finish your makeup, to hit the bottom (the "pan") of a product before you buy another one. Sounds small. It isn't. This episode gets into why: the beauty industry produces over 120 billion units of packaging a year, the vast majority of it never gets recycled, and the single most effective thing any of us can do isn't recycling smarter — it's simply buying less. We dig into what's actually in the products lined up on your counter, where it ends up, and why "use what you already own" might be the most underrated environmental move in your whole house. Waste Is Not Inevitable: Zero Waste Forum 2026

I spent two days at the 2026 Zero Waste Forum at the Park City Library, surrounded by people who think about trash for a living — and somehow left more hopeful than when I walked in. This episode is my recap: the zero-waste hierarchy that reframes how we deal with our stuff, what the circular economy actually means once you strip away the buzzword, and why a fight over a trash incinerator in South Florida should matter to all of us out here in the Wasatch Back. There's a place in northeastern Minnesota where the water is so clean you can drink straight from the lake. What Just Happened In The Gulf of Mexico?

Fifty. Not fifty thousand. Not fifty million. Just fifty. That's how many Rice's whales are left on Earth. Every single one living in the Gulf of Mexico. And on March 31st, 2026, a committee of Trump administration officials took fifteen minutes to strip the Endangered Species Act protections that were the last thing standing between those whales and the oil drilling operations scientists say are pushing them toward extinction. Most people have never heard of this committee. But its nickname tells you everything: the God Squad. It has the power to decide whether a species lives or dies in the face of human development. It was created in 1978 as an emergency valve — meant for extreme situations, strict legal criteria, and years of process. It has met exactly three times in its entire existence. Until now.
