Special Guest Dip Metress, Head Coach of the #8 ranked Augusta University Jaguars Metress describes his 25-plus year head coaching career, the play so far this season from his undefeated Jaguars and what he expects as Peach Belt Conference play approaches. Metress also gives running feedback about a 10-minute highlight reel from Augusta’s recent 83-56 win over Coastal Georgia on Prostate Cancer Awareness Day. After our conversation with Dip, we continue the show by reviewing some recent high school game results involving ranked teams like Grovetown, Thomson, North Augusta and Cross Creek. Augusta Sports Report Episode 3 with GHSA Expert Kyle Sandy

Georgia High School Association basketball expert Kyle Sandy joined Chad for episode 3 of the Augusta Sports Report. After some programming notes about what you can find from @AugBball and the Augusta Sports Report, and a rundown of the notable games during the early part of the season, we listen to Kyle’s story about how he built Sandysspiel.com as the paper of record for high school basketball in Georgia. And we talk about how the Augusta area’s best boys and girls teams fit into the overall statewide race. We taped this Tuesday morning, and since the recording, Cross Creek throttled River Bluff 80-53 at River Bluff; Grovetown topped Butler 67-64 in overtime at Butler. And Augusta Christian defended its home floor with a 68-52 win over Jones County. Enjoy the show!

Augusta Sports Report - Episode 2 Augusta’s most notable sports media personality Ashley Brown joins the show to talk about the opening weeks of the high school basketball schedule, where you will be hard pressed to find any “cupcakes” on the best teams’ schedule. We also talk about Ashley’s sports journey from player to radio show host to television broadcaster and columnist. Finally we conclude with a discussion about the high school football state playoffs.

Tipping Off the Basketball Season with Buck Harris and Keenan Mann

Part 1 - Introducing Buck and Keenan Introducing Jones County head coach Buck Harris, an Augusta native whose basketball journey began when he starred for Westside High in the 1980’s. Buck played junior college basketball in Texas before finishing his playing career at AugustaUniversity, where he graduated from in the early 90’s. Buck was spent 9 seasons as an assistant coach for Augusta University, and he spent another 6 years combined as an assistant at South Carolina State and Campbell, both Division I schools. Harris went on to be a head coach for Laney, Baldwin County, and now Jones County, where he is entering his third season. He organized this Saturday’s (November 13) “Hoopin’ in Middle Georgia” invitational tip-off tournament, which will include many of middle Georgia’s best boys and girls teams being matched up against many of the Augusta area’s best programs, like Butler, Grovetown, Westside and Greenbrier on the boys side, and Cross Creek and Butler on the girls. Then we turn to our in-studio guest, Keenan Mann, a former teammate of Buck’s at Augusta University who is one of the very best players in the history of Augusta area basketball. After starting at Richmond Academy alongside Chuck Graham (Florida State) and under legendary coach Don Brock, Mann was recruited by another former Musketeer Gerald White (Auburn) to play for Clint Bryant at Augusta. Keenan finished as the all-time leader scorer at the college and he is still one of the school’s top five all-time leaders. He is one of four players in the program’s history to have his jersey retired. After earning his MBA in Business Administration, Mann has enjoyed a greater than 30-years long business career working for multinational companies like Electrolux and Husqvarna before recently founding Mann Advisory Services, a unique financial advice practice that is accessible to almost everybody, and not only people with considerable investable assets or current income. Part 2 - How Saturday’s “Hoopin’ in Middle Georgia” came together Buck describes how he put this Saturday’s “Middle Georgia vs Augusta” invitational. The event is loaded with teams that are ranked in the top 10 in the state, there is a defending state champion, and several teams that could make deep postseason runs come February and March.
