Beschreibung

Episode description: You hit the goal — and the critical voice didn't leave. It just changed its script. In this episode, Jamesyn breaks down why protecting your self-talk is an ongoing job, not a milestone, and shares two strategies for keeping your mind on your side when it gets hard. In this episode: Most of us are carrying a quiet assumption: once I get there, the noise will stop. It doesn't. Your brain — the same brain that fought you the entire way up — simply finds new material. "You got lucky." "They're going to figure you out." "Can you even do it again?" Jamesyn explains why this isn't evidence of a problem — it's biology. Your brain's job is to keep you safe, and to your brain, safe means familiar. Every time you stretch past the edge of your current identity, the alarm sounds. The negative self-talk gets loudest exactly when it gets hard, because that's when you're deepest in new territory. Then she walks through the chain that makes self-talk a strategic issue, not a self-care issue: thoughts drive feelings, feelings drive actions, actions produce results. The sentence in your head is the first domino. Two strategies to take with you: 1. Catch it and separate it. Get the thought out of your head and onto paper, then run the test: is this a fact, or is this a thought? Facts you deal with. Thoughts you get to question. 2. Decide ahead of time. Stop negotiating with a scared brain in the moment — you'll lose. The clear-headed version of you makes the decision before the hard moment arrives, so when it comes, you execute instead of deliberate. The goal was never a quiet mind. The goal is a managed one. Episode 59: How to Get the Feeling You're Actually Chasing Cover

59: How to Get the Feeling You're Actually Chasing

Episode Description You don't actually want the new job, the new house, or the new title — you want how you think those things will make you feel. In this episode, Jamesyn breaks down why that feeling is one thought away, not twelve steps away, and hands you a five-minute tool to start building it today. IN THIS EPISODE * Why every goal on your list — the promotion, the money, the move — is really a feeling in disguise * The Model: why circumstances don't create feelings, and what actually does * Two women, one identical setback, two completely different outcomes — and what made the difference * The one question that tells you whether you're facing a thought problem or a circumstance that genuinely needs to change * Why scrolling, shopping, and vacation-booking past an uncomfortable feeling keeps you stuck in the loop longer * The five-step, five-minute tool: name the feeling, find the thought, and choose the replacement * Identity work in action — practicing the feeling before the result shows up (Stage 4 of the Career Reinvention Framework: Become the Person) KEY TAKEAWAYS * The feeling you're chasing isn't twelve steps away. It's one thought away. Not a fake thought — a trained one. * Circumstances don't create feelings. Thoughts about your circumstances do. Same circumstance, different thought, completely different feeling. * The test: if you changed the thought and nothing else changed, could you actually live here? If no, that's a circumstance that needs to change — go change it. If yes, that's where the thought work starts paying off. * Suppressing a feeling isn't processing it. The anxious feeling isn't the enemy — it's internal data showing you exactly where the misalignment is. * You can't catapult past a feeling you haven't let yourself feel. You can only catapult through it. * You don't become the person after the goal. You pursue the goal and become the person along the way. Episode 58: The Weight of Two Worlds: Corporate By Day and Entrepreneur By Night Cover

58: The Weight of Two Worlds: Corporate By Day and Entrepreneur By Night

EPISODE DESCRIPTION: You're holding down the job that pays the bills while building the business on the margins of it — before work, after work, on the weekends that used to be yours. In this episode, Jamesyn breaks down why this season feels so exhausting, why the doubt that shows up isn't evidence you made the wrong choice, and why the job you're resenting right now is actually the structural advantage making your reinvention possible. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODE - Why building a business while employed puts you in Stage 3 and Stage 4 of the Career Reinvention Framework at the same time - Why the exhaustion of running two identities at once isn't weakness — it's simple math - The specific trap that turns normal friction into a false verdict about your ability - Why skipping the milestone is what makes one hard week feel like a referendum on the whole decision - Why "Become the Person" doesn't happen overnight — and what the impostor feeling actually means - Why building on the side of a full-time job is the strategically superior path, not the compromised one - The four questions to run when doubt shows up, instead of arguing with it - The old defense mechanisms — overfunctioning, perfectionism, the high achiever's scorecard, the one who's always had it together — that resurface under this kind of pressure KEY BREAKDOWN Where You Actually Are You've already recognized the gap and made the decision. You're now in Stage 3 (Build the Strategy) and Stage 4 (Become the Person) simultaneously — without the option of leaving the old chapter first. The Real Problem You're operating as two fully incompatible identities at once: the corporate performer and the builder. The depletion isn't a personal failing. It's the cost of running both. The Trap Normal friction — a slow month, a launch that doesn't land — gets misread as a verdict on your ability. Thoughts like "this isn't working" are thoughts, not facts. Why You Forget Why You Started Without a milestone set in advance, every hard week becomes a referendum on the decision. The milestone gives you something concrete to measure against instead of your mood. Becoming Her Doesn't Happen Overnight Identity forms through the practice of doing the thing — badly, then less badly, then well. The impostor feeling is evidence you're mid-transformation, not evidence you're unqualified. The Runway Is the Advantage The job funding your business removes the desperation that forces fear-based decisions. Time, not urgency, is what identity work requires. The Four Questions Clear head or crisis? Have you hit the milestone? Wrong choice or wrong pace? What does the evidence say? Who Shows Up in This Season The overfunctioner, the perfectionist, the high achiever, the one who's always had it together — all resurface under change. None of them is a reason to turn back. Episode Episode 57: What Is Identity Work? The Missing Step in Career Reinvention Cover

Episode 57: What Is Identity Work? The Missing Step in Career Reinvention

Identity work isn't a chapter in the reinvention process — it's the thread running through every single stage. In this episode, Jamesyn breaks down exactly what identity work looks like at each stage of The Bold Life Career Reinvention Framework, and why skipping it is the reason so many ambitious women stall, self-sabotage, or feel like a stranger in their own success. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODE - Why career dissatisfaction is almost always an identity signal — not just a situational problem - How your current identity is quietly filtering the decisions you allow yourself to make - The specific identity trap women fall into at each of the five stages of career reinvention - Why you don't become the person first and then pursue the goal — and what actually works instead - How to stay in a reflective relationship with who you're becoming so you don't miss the next gap THE FIVE STAGES + THE IDENTITY WORK AT EACH Stage 1 — Recognize the Gap Identity problem: You don't realize the discomfort is an identity signal. Question to ask: Is what I'm feeling about my career also telling me something about who I'm becoming? Stage 2 — Make the Decision Identity problem: Your current identity is making the decision for you. Question to ask: Am I making this decision from who I am right now — or from who I'm becoming? Stage 3 — Build the Strategy Identity problem: You build a strategy for future you, then execute it as your current self. Question to ask: Who do I need to become as I execute this strategy? How does she think, feel, and move differently? How do I plan from the perspective of future me? Stage 4 — Become the Person Identity problem: You're waiting to feel like her before you act like her. Question to ask: How does future me show up through action — even before it feels natural? Stage 5 — Recalibrate Identity problem: You think the identity work is finished. Question to ask: Is who I am now still aligned with the chapter I'm building — or have I already outgrown it? RESOURCES + NEXT STEPS Not sure which career signal is driving your dissatisfaction? Episode 56: The Promotion Gap Is Real. Here’s What You Actually Control. Cover

56: The Promotion Gap Is Real. Here’s What You Actually Control.

You've done everything right — and he still got promoted. If that sentence landed somewhere familiar, this episode is for you. The promotion gap between men and women isn't a rumor or a feeling. It's documented by researchers at Yale and MIT, replicated across industries, and measurable in the data. And the finding isn't that women underperform. It's the opposite. Women consistently outperform — and still get passed over, because promotions aren't driven by performance. They're driven by potential ratings. And women are being systematically underrated on potential. In this episode, Jamesyn breaks down the research, names the mechanism behind the gap, and then does the thing most career conversations skip entirely: talks about what you actually control. Three strategic paths. All legitimate. None of them easy. And an honest conversation about the one thing none of them can fix. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODE — Why women are consistently passed over for promotion despite outperforming their male peers — The difference between performance ratings and potential ratings — and why it matters — The three strategic paths available to you when you're navigating a biased system — What playing the game better actually requires (hint: it's not working harder) — How to know whether to stay, leave, or redirect your energy toward systemic change — The one thing none of these paths resolve — and why naming it matters ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ RESOURCES + LINKS MENTIONED Career Burnout Signals Quiz — Free 2-minute diagnostic to identify which of the five career signals you're experiencing → theboldlife.coach Red Chair Sessions — Private strategic advisement.
