The Cycling Dads Podcast
Episode Summary We're back! And yes, Devon almost said his old brokerage name on air - branding discipline barely intact. Summer is happening and it's already over. Seriously. Remember when summer was this huge thing that lasted forever? Now we're just booking out the calendar and suddenly we're back to school prep. Devon's got Grandma's Marathon coming up in Duluth with the family, Madeline Island trip at the end of July. Aaron's dealing with something different: he's basically the neighborhood daycare (kids everywhere) and his house has become a kitten rescue operation. Bitty Kitty Brigade intake situation. They've literally lost count of how many cats have been through his basement. But the real news: Devon bought a sauna. Sold a house to clients - pre-market, two cash offers, $125K over ask, no big deal - and they didn't need the sauna for their move to Washington. So now Devon's got a sauna and he's "sauna maxing." Aaron's having none of it. Still, Devon's using it every night and loves it. Fifteen minutes of phone-free breathing. His wife tried it once and never came back. Spotify just gave us some listener insights. Apparently we have way more people in Norway than expected. We're basically a Norwegian-focused podcast now. Hygge podcast (the Scandinavian hygge thing). Devon's fitness: still on his routine. Zwift Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Running Tuesday, Thursday (6.5 miles now, trying to get to 7). Long run consistently at 13 miles but needs to get up to 18 miles for Twin Cities Marathon training. He had a little calf strain from sliding on stairs - the most embarrassing injury possible. Aaron's been on some group rides with Colin. There was a poorly led ride - won't name names, but it was Brandon - with bad communication about hazards and a group of 20 cyclists running a red light. Sketchy situations, stressed riders, stressed drivers. Not good. Did a golf outing with Brian "Beefcake" Duncan at Keller Golf Course - gorgeous spot with elevation. Got a new Fitbit Air from Google. Walking the course (4 hours) had similar cardio to a 40-minute all-out hard ride. After Brian reminded him to use his hips, he called him Shakira. Devon joined a North Star Development Team ride out of Stillwater - really impressed with the program. 30-40 riders, volunteer coaches, emphasis on safety and etiquette. They do this Wisconsin loop, quiet country roads, rolling terrain. Stopped at Gloria's for ice cream (twist cone always the right play) and convinced the whole group to take a photo in front of his Lake Sotheby's office on Main Street.
