The Punitive Template is Ruining Society

Society has enacted a system of laws with societal subsets containing policies and procedures that mandate compliance or undesirable consequences are the result. Western societies in particular seem to have the same bag of punitive measures: fines, cessation of employment, miscellaneous restrictions/removals, suspended sentences, custodial sentences, death sentences. In this segment we discuss our thoughts and feelings about the societal template that we live in and whether this fosters the types of communities and individuals we want to have in the world.

June 19, 1865 marked the end of the chattel slavery for Black people in the US. It became known as 'Juneteenth' and is marked by celebrations and commemoration by the descendants of the enslaved. Given the current state of events; in light of the killing of George Floyd and countless others, are we truly living the spirit of the legacy?
