275: The Life and Teachings of Jesus Christ - The Hidden Kingdom and the Day of the Son of Man Part 3

In this episode, Phil examines latter-day prophecies concerning covenant faithfulness, spiritual discernment, and preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ. Drawing from the teachings of Christ and modern revelation, he explains that the opportunity for entering into the new and everlasting covenant of baptism has been made available and that Christ will come again like a thief in the night while many are occupied in Babylon (Luke 17:20–37). Phil teaches that to believe in Christ is to receive the baptism of water, fire and the Holy Ghost, and that Christ has plead the faithful’s case before the Father that they might be saved (D&C 38:4–12). He outlines the warnings given to covenant people who harden their hearts, emphasizing that those who have ears to hear and eyes to see will have the way made available to enter the kingdom of God or New Jerusalem. He also explores prophecies of coming desolation, repentance, and the promise that a light shall break forth among the Saints (D&C 45:16–35). Phil explains that discernment comes by taking the Holy Spirit as our guide, and he highlights divine patterns the Lord has given to help His people distinguish truth from deception (D&C 50:1–26; D&C 52:14–19; D&C 46:7–12). He discusses scriptural warnings concerning false prophets, false Christs or Messiahs, secret combinations, and widespread spiritual delusion in the last days (Matthew 24:4–5; 2 Thessalonians 2:1–12; Ether 8:22–26).
