The Rio Grande Podcast
One of the Rio Grande Valley’s major moments of history happened in September 1967: the infamously catastrophic Hurricane Beulah. Robert Treto, Sr. was a teenager living in Harlingen, Texas - an area directly hit by the storm. Working in the Engineering department at a local hospital, he was tasked with helping keep the hospital running and keeping staff members safe. Hurricane Beulah devastated large parts of Mexico, the Eastern Caribbean, and South Texas. It still is one of the most devastating natural disasters to hit South Texas on record and the force of its impact lives on in the memory of the locals who survived it. Huge thank you to Mr. Treto for taking the time to share his story with us and for his contributions to the relief efforts in Cameron County.
