In his debut feature documentary, Director Eddie Sánchez [https://www.imdb.com/name/nm8217690/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_0_nm_8_in_0_q_eddie%20sanchez] paints a vulnerable portrait of his family and their experience as immigrants in the U.S. Mexicanamerican [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt41914712/?ref_=fn_t_1] introduces us to his parents, Lalo and Beby Sánchez who, like many immigrants and refugees, came to the U.S. in hope of opportunity and a better future. Sánchez joins The Rolling Tape to discuss his experience creating this independent documentary, his relationship to his family, and how the film acts as a love letter to his parents and a reclamation of his Mexican heritage.  The film employs a mix of Lalo’s VHS home movies that he would send to family back in Mexico to act as life updates, and contemporary interviews shot by Eddie with Lalo and Beby about their lives. Mexicanamerican is Eddie’s aim to analog and digital bridge to connect with his parents in a new way – cultivating his very own home movie.  The film had its World Premiere at the Tribeca Festival on June 9, with additional screenings on June 10, and June 14. RETRO//RANKED: Christopher Nolan (1-2): Following & Memento

We tried to get Guy Pearce on the phone to see if he’d like to appear on today’s episode. He said he was game, but when we called back to give him a rundown of everything, he acted like he had no memory of our conversation and no idea who I was. Very unprofessional. RETRO//RANKED is a Rolling Tape network series ranking the individual entries of beloved franchises and filmographies, timed to major new releases. Today marks the beginning of what might be our biggest season yet, and for once, we actually mean it. We're diving into the complete filmography of Christopher Nolan, building episode by episode, two films at a time, toward the release of his latest film, The Odyssey. This premiere episode kicks things off with Following and Memento, which means we'll be debating non-linear storytelling, the finer points of anterograde amnesia, and whether you'd drink the beer that Carrie-Anne Moss spits into in that diner scene. No wrong answers. Joining host Evan Miller for the occasion is a RETRO//RANKED first: the show's debut guest, Derrick Murray.  Enjoy all VIDEO episodes of SEASON 7 one week ahead of their public audio-only release exclusively on Patreon. *TRIBECA 2026* Interview with ‘Mouth Full of Golds’ Director, Lyle Lindgren

Meet Famous Eddie Plein – the biggest fashion icon you never heard of. Eddie was the visionary behind grillz, the culture-changing dental jewelry that came to dominate the zeitgeist — celebrities, rappers, athletes, models, anyone who is anybody wears grillz. In his feature documentary, Mouth Full of Golds [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt42038808/?ref_=ttch_ov_i], Lyle Lindgren [https://www.imdb.com/name/nm9430339/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_2_nm_6_in_0_q_lyle%20lin] showcases the rise and fall of Famous Eddie’s Gold Teeth and the players surrounding grillz. The documentary expertly utilizes archival footage interpolated with modern interviews and reenactments to envisage this history. Mouth Full of Golds stars Famous Eddie Plein [https://www.imdb.com/name/nm18448964/?ref_=fn_t_1], Goldie [https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0325635/?ref_=fn_t_2], Mike Tyson [https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005512/], A$AP Rocky [https://www.imdb.com/name/nm5473880/?ref_=fn_t_1], Dolly Cohen [https://www.imdb.com/name/nm18448965/?ref_=fn_t_1], Michèle Lamy [https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1789813/], Ferg [https://www.imdb.com/name/nm6672600/?ref_=fn_t_1], and more. For Lindgren, the film is a testament to independent filmmakers and a love letter to grillz and grillz culture.  Lindgren joins The Rolling Tape to discuss his lifelong fascination with grillz, how he became friend and collaborator to famous British Rapper Goldie, his journey as an independent filmmaker, and his experience rummaging through the archives for footage.  Follow our interviewees online: Lyle Lindgren on IMDB [https://www.imdb.com/name/nm9430339/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_2_nm_6_in_0_q_lyle%20lin], Instagram [https://www.instagram.com/lylelindgren/]  Follow our interview host online: Mariana Fabian [https://therollingtape.com/mariana-fabian/] Support the show [https://www.buymeacoffee.com/therollingtape] Subscribe for Early Access and Video: The Rolling Tape Patreon [https://www.patreon.com/therollingtape] Listen Here: Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/show/0PQMLl7VaSKWFvMTqpYXhi?si=d000de8a9ad140d7] Apple Podcasts [https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-rolling-tape/id1642316834] All Listening Platforms [https://therollingtape.buzzsprout.com/] Have questions? The Awards Tape: Horror at the Oscars & Inde Navarrette Awards Consideration for Obsession

Consider this a first for The Awards Tape as we decided to backtrack and provide an update on a little movie you may have heard of called Obsession. Yes, the $750,000 micro-budgeted horror film has taken over the box office as after three weeks in wide release, it's accumulated over $170 million worldwide, becoming the first film from Focus Features to cross $100 million in the North American box office. It's the first film since E.T. to see its box office increase in its second and third consecutive weekends, even facing stiff competition from horror-adjacent films like Backrooms and blockbusters like The Mandalorian and Grogu. It currently sits at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, 77% on Metacritic, and 4.2 on Letterboxd. Obsession has made Curry Barker the most in-demand director in Hollywood and has launched the stardom of Inde Navarette who is at the center of the conversation of whether the film is in serious position to reap awards glory.  So today we are asking, how can Obsession accomplish that? What are the most direct comparisons when it comes to horror films and the Oscars? And what is the history when it comes to the Academy Awards and the horror genre?  We are joined by guest and horror/awards season YouTuber Savanna Dawn [https://www.youtube.com/@savannadawnyt] to break it all down! The Rolling Remote: Euphoria Season 3 Finale, Series Takeaways & MVP's/LVP's

Today we are officially closing the book on one of the biggest, most talked about, and complicated television shows of the last decade, HBO's Euphoria. Over the last few months, we've gone all the way back to Season One, revisited Season Two, and finally caught up with the third and final season of the series. Created by Sam Levinson and starring Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Colman Domingo, Alexa Demie, and Maude Apatow, Euphoria started in 2019 as a coming-of-age drama about addiction, identity and friendship, and growing up in an increasingly overwhelming digital world.  Six years later, after delays and controversy, cast changes, and just about anything you can expect from a television show, Season Three returned with a completely different version of the show. A five-year time jump, characters way out of high school, a bigger focus on crime and on faith, the consequences of their previous actions and adulthood. It has a new visual language, a new musical direction, and ultimately an ending that people are going to be talking about for a very long time.  Today we break down the final episodes of Season Three, where we leave Rue, Jules, Cassie, Maddie, Lexi, Nate, and everybody else, and finally answering the the big question that we've been trying to get to during all of this: did Euphoria stick the landing?  On this episode: Jake Fittipaldi [https://therollingtape.com/jake-fittipaldi/] Danny Jarabek [https://therollingtape.com/danny-jarabek/] Support the show [https://www.buymeacoffee.com/therollingtape] Subscribe for Early Access and Video: The Rolling Tape Patreon [https://www.patreon.com/therollingtape] Listen Here: Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/show/0PQMLl7VaSKWFvMTqpYXhi?si=d000de8a9ad140d7] Apple Podcasts [https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-rolling-tape/id1642316834] All Listening Platforms [https://therollingtape.buzzsprout.com/] Have questions?
