I can hear them crying.”  They were all making the most awful sounds deep within my earth. I could feel them pushing against me too, trying to expand and push beyond the cavern we had made for them.  “They are fine,” Ouranos said, trying to bring me back to where we were resting. “No,” I said, pulling away. “It feels different. It feels like something is wrong. I need to speak to them.”  He sighed. “I will be back and will let you know what they say,” I said. I hurried towards their cavern, hoping that whatever it was could be resolved quickly. While we hadn’t figured out a long-term solution for what to do with the children, it had been nice having uninterrupted time with Ouranos.  I appeared in the center of the cavern, taking in the scene and making sure no one was hurt. “What is the matter?”  “Mother, you must let us out,” Tethys said. “We can’t stay here. Why won’t you let us out?”  “Your Father and I are still trying to understand what we should do. Since some of you insist on taking what is not yours,” I said, eying Kronos, “we are not sure what other things you might do.” “What if we promise not to take from others?” Koios asked. “I would never promise that,” Kronos said. Some of them groaned at Kronos’s inability to be quiet.  “If your only question was to ask how long you would need to stay in here, the answer is I do not know,” I said, turning to leave. “Wait, Mother,” Themis said. “Why did you create us?” The children were always asking questions and I was tired. I would keep this simple.  “It is my purpose to create.” The children perked up and looked at each other.  “Do you desire to create more?” Rheia asked carefully. I noticed more glances passed between some of them as they waited for my answer. “Your father does not want more,” I said. Some of their faces fell.  “What do you want, Mother?” Themis asked.  “I always want more,” I said. “Will you create with another?” Iapetos asked. “I do not want any other,” I said. “Do you care about Father?” Rheia asked.  “I care that he has his heavens. I care that he is there to protect us all from Khaos. I am glad he chooses to remain and protect.” “Do you feel nothing else for him?” Tethys asked. “I feel –.” I paused, struggling to describe what I felt about Ouranos. “Do you love him?” Mnemosyne asked.  I looked at her. Usually she knew what words were right. There were so many feelings, I didn’t know if ‘love’ was the right word. “I do not know,” I said. “Does Father love you?” she asked.  “He says I am beautiful now. He says that he wants to be with me.” “Perhaps you can create again with him,” Rheia said. “Perhaps,” I said.  Then I frowned.  “What’s wrong?” Theia asked.  “I am not as beautiful anymore. He will not desire me enough to want to create with me. With all of you here, I am fading. If you stay here, I may return to being ugly.”  “Then let us out,” Rheia said. “We will make you beautiful again. We will make Ouranos desire you. You can create with him. You can be together.”  I could not deny it was what I wanted. I longed to create more. It was my purpose. It was my power. I needed to create, to feel the flow of such energy.  “We can help you, Mother,” Theia said.  They had helped me before, but it had not worked. He had stayed away.  “I do not think it can work,” I said.  “But Father loves you just like you love him,” Mnemosyne said. “His love and your beauty will make his desire too great. He won’t be able to resist you.”  I started pacing a little, trying to think.  It had been nice being with Ouranos, just the two of us. Except — he always prevented us from creating. Creation was different from simply being together. Being together was good, but it was not enough. I realized how much I wanted to create, how much I needed to create. He was the only one I wanted. He was the only one I desired. Maybe I could make him desire me as much as I desired him.  “Alright,” I said, turning to them. “I will set you free, but you must not do anything to upset your father. You must be kind to each other and work together. We must not take, except for what is needed. Your father and I placed you in my earth to protect you. We also need to protect the elements from being wasted and spent beyond what we can handle.  “Do you promise?” “We promise to work together and to only take what is needed,” Themis said, eying the others.  The others readily agreed. “Very well,” I said, feeling pleased. “I will let you out.”  Chapter 20 [https://ifihadwordscomdomainonly.wordpress.com/2026/03/10/gaia-chapter-19-2/]    Chapter 22 [https://ifihadwordscomdomainonly.wordpress.com/2026/03/10/gaia-chapter-22/]

Gaia Chapter 23 (Final Chapter)

[https://ifihadwords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/ee45f-gaia_final_3.jpg?w=1024&h=1024]https://ifihadwordscomdomainonly.wordpress.com/gaia/ Previous Chapter [https://ifihadwordscomdomainonly.wordpress.com/2026/03/10/gaia-chapter-22/]  I floated, feeling weightless within the core of my earth. It had been some time since Kronos had taken what he needed, what he wanted, what he used to rule over the rest of us. Ouranos had said Kronos was the answer. I tried to trust him. I tried to work with Kronos. Kronos made it all so unbearable. He imagined himself the most powerful among us now — now that he had Ouranos’s power. He was ever making his superiority known. Mnemosyne reminded me he had always been like that. I knew she was right, but it didn’t help.  It made me wonder. Would Khaos have been better? I had resisted for so long, the idea that Khaos had a purpose. Undoing things was completely against my nature. I couldn’t imagine a need for unmaking, for destroying any of the creations.  But maybe. Maybe I should have tried harder to understand Khaos’s purpose. Maybe I should have worked harder with Ouranos to find a better way. I felt comfort in knowing one of Kronos’s own children would eventually take that power from him.  In the meantime, we all had to find a new balance, a new order within the cosmos.  Ouranos was still there. My love, my protector. He had poured all of his love into our last creation and had retreated into his heavens. He was finished with creating anyway, even before Kronos took it. I think that was partly why he was able to give it up so easily.  He had been ready.  I had not. Why did it have to be Kronos? Why not Koios or Krios? Even if Ouranos was ready, why hadn’t I fought harder? I might have tried to convince him not to give up so quickly.  It was too late now.  I tried. I tried to accept the new way of things.  But Kronos’s whole existence made me uninterested in trying to do anything anymore.  I soaked in the warmth of my core. It was peaceful here. It reminded me of what Tartarus had said of the abyss. I could find rest. I could find peace. Not in the abyss, but within myself. I did have the satisfaction of managing to create at least three more children with the struggling remnants of my connection with Ouranos: the ash trees, the furies, and the gigantes. I did better this time and they each had a clear purpose. I felt sorry for the cyclopes and hecatoncheires. Those were still trapped in my earth. Kronos would not let them out, now that he had the power to keep them in. He said they were too ugly.   Well, my ash trees could not be hidden. They were ugly and grey-looking, a reminder of how sad I felt. They remind us all of what we had lost. They would not be buried in the earth. Nor could he hide the furies. They were powerful and well-formed. They were wise and cunning too. They would exact justice where justice had been denied. They would ensure my revenge. Not yet, but they would when the time was right. And the gigantes. They were as large as some of my mountains. I had found a small amount of Khoas’s power and given it to them. They would be impossible to control, impossible to organize. They would surely make things difficult for Kronos.  I felt sorry for all of my children. Rheia seemed especially distressed. She would sometimes come and talk to me, even while I was in my core.   I had tried so hard. I had poured in so much and fought so hard. I had forced Khaos to make space for us.  Now Kronos was the one to do the forcing. I groaned, turning on my side.  I had released them too soon. They had fooled me into thinking they cared, that they would respect the order Ouranos and I were trying to build. It was my fault. My desire to create had been all consuming.  Now I was spent. Now I felt nothing. Like the void.  I was finally starting to understand these ideas of resting, undoing, and trying again.  I might never understand being perfect because I am constantly filled with potential.  But Khaos has his purpose and I have mine. We are opposites. Opposites are not to be feared. Opposites give us choices. Opposites provide balance.  There would be the next question. And the next answer.  Even if it was not a perfect one, it would have potential.  I felt for Ouranos’s last creation. She would be the answer to some future question. For now she rested in the waters of the deep. Tethys had carried her to the seas, letting her remain hidden within its depths until she was ready to emerge. There was not much I could do for her. She would have to find her own way. Her own beginning.  Just as I had.  Because that’s where it all starts. It’s where it always starts. In the beginning.

Gaia Chapter 22

[https://ifihadwords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/ee45f-gaia_final_3.jpg?w=1024&h=1024]https://ifihadwordscomdomainonly.wordpress.com/gaia/ Chapter 21 [https://ifihadwordscomdomainonly.wordpress.com/2026/03/10/gaia-chapter-21/]    Chapter 23 [https://ifihadwordscomdomainonly.wordpress.com/2026/03/10/gaia-chapter-23/] Gaia approached Ouranos, glowing.  At first, he couldn’t speak.  “You are so beautiful,” he finally said.  “Thank you,” she said. “I feel wonderful.” “Are the children well?” “Yes. I made them promise not to waste the elements and to be kind to each other.” He froze. “You let them out?” “They were miserable. They were not meant to stay. We had not figured out what to do and it felt cruel to make them wait.” He thought for a moment.  “I suppose that makes sense,” he said slowly.  “And we could always put them back if they do not keep their promise,” she said.  “That is true.” He noticed his own heavens were more radiant as power flowed from some of the children.  “I suppose they are not all bad,” he said. “They do add to the heavens and the earth. I did not realize how much you had faded until now. I have never seen you look more beautiful.”  “And I have never felt so alive,” she said, stepping towards him. “I love you.” “You love me?” he said. “What is that?” “It is how I feel when I am with you. It is how I feel when you touch me. It is what flowed through me when you surrounded me. It is that feeling of being whole. It is what I feel when we have created our most wonderful children. It was missing when we made my creatures. To me, they are still good, but I was not listening. I was not loving you. I love you now.” He brought her to him.  “Then I love you too,” he said.  “What shall we create with this love that we feel?” “Create?” he said, stepping back. “I do not want to create more.” “I need you,” she said, closing the gap again. “I want to create with you. It is not the same as being together. Creation is more. Creation is powerful. I want that with you and no one else.” He looked down at her. She was glorious. He could feel her power and energy as she reached for him. He tried to contain the desire, but she made him feel so wonderful.  “I want you,” he said, holding her. “I want you more than anything I have ever wanted. But I –” He broke off as a part of him pulled back slightly. He looked at her, questioning. “What’s wrong?” she asked. He jolted again, his eyes growing wide. “I cannot move,” he said, straining. “Something is holding me back.”  He lurched again and he struggled to keep himself around Gaia. With one final pull, he let go of her and she struggled to stay with him. “What is happening?” he said, his voice urgent. Gaia looked around bewildered, trying to see what had him trapped.  Then she saw them.  Krios and Koios stood some ways apart from each other, holding down a part of the heavens. She leaned against Ouranos as she looked behind her and saw Hyperion and Iapetos holding down two more corners. “We have him trapped Mother,” Iapetos called.  “Let him go!!” Gaia cried, trying to shield Ouranos with as much of her as she could.  “No, Mother. They will not let him go. Not yet.” She turned and saw Kronos approaching them with his sickle. It glowed with some kind of power.  “No,” she said. “Do not touch him.”  “It is the only way, Mother. We need him, not you. Step aside.” Gaia hurled earth at Kronos, forcing him back.  “You will not touch him!” The earth began to grow hot as she let her rage begin its flow. She would protect him. She would not let Kronos reach him.  “Gaia.”  His voice was soft and gentle, cooling her heat a little. Gaia turned to Ouranos. “It is alright,” he said. “Do not be afraid.” “I will not let him touch you.”  “It is the answer. It is what we have been looking for. It is what must be.” “No!” she said. “I love you!”  “Gaia, we may not understand, but I feel this is what we created him for. He is meant to take what he must so that he can fulfill his purpose. He will reach me eventually. You cannot stop him forever.” “I am so sorry,” Gaia said, shaking her head and pushing herself against him. “I never should have let them out. I never should have let my desire to create come to this. We will never get them back into the earth. They have trapped you. I have left you with no other way. I have left you with no choice.” “There is always a choice.”  She looked up at him.   “I love you, Gaia. I will always protect you. This is the only way I know how. This is the only way I can protect you from Khaos and all of the other creators who will come and take from you. I do not know exactly how this is the answer, but it feels right. It is what I must do. It is how I must fulfill my purpose, my promise to you.” As she soaked it all in, she noticed his gaze raise slightly. She turned to see Kronos approaching again. She heaved him away with another great force from her earth. She turned to Ouranos.  “But I only want to create with you. I do not want another.” “Follow the path of your nature. Do not fear where it leads you,” he said. “This is my path. This is my choice. It does not have to be yours.”  “Please don’t,” she said, burying her head against him. “I cannot lose you.” He was quiet for a moment, gazing down at the one he never thought he would come to love. She had been so ugly, so hot and passionate. But she was so powerful. She had rekindled the elements and brought them back from the abyss. She had forced Khaos to make space for them all.  Her heat and her efforts had created him and had made him into the mighty heavens he was now. She was the most beautiful, the most magnificent being in all of the cosmos. He loved her. He loved her so much.   Her desire to create was always pushing her forward, pushing everything forward. It’s what pushed her to set the children free. It was what she wanted before they had trapped him. There was one more thing he could give her.  “I will create with you one last time,” he said. “Hurry, before Kronos takes what he must.” Gaia looked up at him, not understanding.  “Just as you wish, let us create. Let us take all of the love and beauty we have created together and give it its own beginning.” “I cannot lose you,” she said, shaking her head. “Please, Gaia. Before he comes.”  “He might destroy her,” Gaia said.  “Let us form only her potential. That will make it easier to keep her hidden. She can grow and emerge when she is ready.” “How? We have not mastered creation yet.” “Try,” he said. “Even if it doesn’t work we can try.”  Gaia stood pressed against him. He was willing to sacrifice everything for her, to keep her safe. He loved her. With him, she had finally felt complete. Now she didn’t know what Kronos would take, but she could feel it would not be good.  She could feel it would mean their end. “Please, Gaia. Show me. Show me how much you love me.” She finally surrendered. She would trust him. She would let them create once more. It would be their most glorious creation.  She let love fill her and from her, she began pouring it into him. She could feel his love too. It was so powerful, she felt herself rising, glowing, shining, brighter than she’d ever seen Theia or Hemera. She poured in her beauty, all of the beauty she felt when she was with him. As she floated, Ouranos kept her grounded, his four corners still pinned to the earth.  As she finally came back down, she noticed a small bundle of pale pink light had formed between them.  Gaia cradled it. “Hide her,” Ouranos said. “Do not let Kronos find her.” “Step away from him, Mother!” Kronos cried, climbing up over the last ridge of earth.  “She does not have a name,” Gaia said, ignoring Kronos’s cries as she hurled more earth at him. “She will find a name,” Ouranos said. “She will find her purpose.”  “But I cannot lose you.”  “Keep her safe. We must face what comes next.” Gaia let her tears flow as she thought about what would come next. What would they do to him? What would they take from him? As her tears flowed, she let the small bundle in her hand float away. She silently called to Tethys, hoping she would understand what to do with the little pink light.  “You cannot stall forever, Mother!” Kronos said, using his sickle to break through her earth. “Move aside.”  Gaia stood and faced her youngest son.  “At least I made you work for it,” she said with satisfaction. “Move aside!” “This is not the way,” Gaia said, not moving. “What is the way, Mother? To let you bury us in your earth? Allow you to control us? You had your chance. This is what must be done.” “We can find the answer together. We can find a way for all of us to exist without taking.” “It’s not possible, Mother. It’s not the nature of creation. And you and Father cannot be trusted. You are too powerful together. You won’t let us grow. You won’t let us reach our full potential.”  Kronos continued stepping forward, getting closer and closer to Gaia. “Do not let him touch you,” Ouranos said from behind.  She quickly turned to him, holding him one more time.  “He will not destroy me, Gaia,” Ouranos said. “I will give him what he wants.”  “I will always love you,” she said. Then she turned and let Kronos face Ouranos. “I have found my purpose, Father. I am the answer!” Kronos said. “I am the key to what must come next! I am here to take what I must so that you will not be able to hold us back.” “Take care, Kronos,” Ouranos said. “You are the answer to my question, but there will always be more questions and more answers.” “You told me to find my purpose. You gave me that responsibility. Did you help me find it? Did you show me the way? No. You used your might and strength to limit us. I have grown stronger. You are not strong enough to keep me back. And now I will take what I need to fulfill my purpose.”  Kronos now stood face to face with his father. He looked at his helpless, outstretched figure. His plan had worked perfectly. Mother had been desirable and his father had not resisted her. Kronos would easily find what he wanted.   “It is yours,” Ouranos said. Kronos hesitated. He had expected some fight from his father. No being would willingly give up something so powerful. Why did his father not fight? Was this a trick? Had he missed something from what he’d taken from Themis and Mnemosyne? No. His plan was perfect. He had his father right where he wanted him. He would not lose this moment. He would fulfill his purpose.  Kronos drew in a breath and with a mighty heave, he thrust his sickle deep into Ouranos. The heavens shook and cracked as Ouranos let out a thunderous cry. Kronos kept his sickle in, searching for the creative power that lived in the heavens. Finding it, Kronos pulled it out and held it for the others to see. Ouranos collapsed as the four finally released him.  “At last, I have what I need,” Kronos said with satisfaction. He held the heavenly power until it was fully absorbed. His entire form glowed. “With it, I will keep balance. I will rule the heavens and the earth so that all will be free to grow and thrive in their spheres.” “Kronos,” Ouranos said, as Gaia helped him stand. “One day — or perhaps one night — a child of your own will take this power from you just as you have taken it from me. There will come a time when your purpose of having such power will end and you must surrender it.”  Kronos glared at his father as his brothers joined in behind him.  “That’ll never happen. I’m too powerful now.” “You are powerful, Kronos, but your children will grow beyond you, just as you have grown beyond us,” Gaia said. “I will keep the balance. I will maintain order!” Kronos said. “I will take what I need to fulfill my purpose!” Gaia thought about her purpose. “And when your purpose comes to an end?” Gaia asked. “When it comes time for another to fulfill their purpose?”  “That will never happen,” Kronos said. “But it will,” she said. “And you too will be unable to stop it.”  Chapter 21 [https://ifihadwordscomdomainonly.wordpress.com/2026/03/10/gaia-chapter-21/]    Chapter 23 [https://ifihadwordscomdomainonly.wordpress.com/2026/03/10/gaia-chapter-23/]

Getting out is not the problem. It is staying out that matters.” “We don’t trust you,” Krios said. “Giving you too much power could be dangerous.”  “I trust him,” Iapetos said, shrugging. “At least, I would rather get out and be free. There is more chance to grow out there than to stay here and do nothing. I still have my purpose to discover and I know I won’t find it here.”  They all stood quietly for a moment. “I’m your only way out,” Kronos said.  “What is your plan exactly?” Koios asked. “Before we agree to trust you, and before we agree to give you some of our power, we need to know everything.” “Before I can answer,” Kronos said. “I need Mnemosyne and Themis. I have pieces, but some are still missing.” “What would you need from us?” Mnemosyne asked.  “Your memories,” Kronos said. “And her logic and understanding, however limited it is.”  Themis narrowed her eyes.  “It seems you feel you are superior to the rest of us,” she said. “I am. It is a simple fact. I am more developed and have more power than you do. I am the key and it is not because I am weak and incapable. It is because I am strong and capable.” Themis couldn’t argue with his logic, but his reasoning felt incomplete. Still, she looked at Mnemosyne and nodded.  The two sisters stepped forward and Kronos drew power from them, searching for what he wanted and taking what he needed.  Mnemosyne gasped.  “It feels awful, to have someone take,” she said. “Maybe this isn’t a good idea. I don’t like it.” “It’s necessary,” Kronos said. “I’ve taken what I need. We will have to do the same to Mother and Father.” “So what is your plan?” Koios asked. “Mnemosyne has helped Mother and Father remember what it was like before we were born. She looked into their past and remembered for them. At first they were separate, acting somewhat independently within the void. It wasn’t until Father realized he could protect Mother from Khaos that he decided to surround her.” “That sounds quite nice,” Rheia said.  “That is not important,” Kronos said. “From Themis, I can see that I can’t take all of their power or we’ll all be destroyed. I must only take what I need to weaken them while still maintaining the balance of the heavens and the earth.” “What do you need?” Okeanos asked. “Their connection. Well, at least Father’s connection to Mother. She can keep hers. We may still need it.”  “How will you take Father’s connection?” Iapetos asked.  “Father usually keeps his hidden. It would be easiest to find if they are together. When Father and Mother reach for each other to connect, it’ll likely be exposed and I can take it. I’ll need help holding Father in place so I don’t accidentally destroy him.” “This all sounds rather dangerous,” Tethys said.  “It is,” Kronos said. They all looked at each other. “How would we get Mother and Father to connect? We have never seen them do it,” Koios asked.  “We’ll need Mother’s help,” Kronos said. “We must convince her to create again with Father. Then we can hold him down and take what we need.”  “This sounds horrible,” Mnemosyne said. “It’s the only way.”  “Are you sure?” Krios asked.  “I am the key. This is the only way.” Chapter 19 [https://ifihadwordscomdomainonly.wordpress.com/2026/03/10/gaia-chapter-19/]    Chapter 21 [https://ifihadwordscomdomainonly.wordpress.com/2026/03/10/gaia-chapter-21/]

Gaia Chapter 19

I felt the pressure on the other side subside and we rested.  “I don’t know how much longer we can keep them down there,” I said. “We must find some answer to what to do with them.”  “We will,” Ouranos said. “When?” I said, failing to hide my exasperation. “Look around you. My earth is beginning to suffer. The areas of growth fade the longer our children stay here. Your heavens need my earth and my earth needs them. Even your heavens are a little less bright. This is not good, Ouranos. Keeping them here is not the answer.” “But it is so peaceful. Yes, it is not quite what it had been. Yes, it is more simple, but it is enough” he said, approaching me. “No mess. No disruption. It feels perfect.” I stepped away. “You are talking like Khaos again. You want things to go back to the way they were. You do not want things to change. You want things to be perfect. It cannot be so.” “Why not? What is so wrong with the way Khaos sees things? True, he only cares about the void. He feels like we are all creating a mess in his void, his perfect void. But to me, you are perfect. I care about you. I do not want to watch the children destroy you. I do not want the children refusing to stop if I tell them they have taken too much. Kronos may still be the answer, but I do not know how to guide him or how he will find his purpose.  “Watching everything has exposed more of the problem. We cannot control them. They will not listen. They will do what they want, no matter what it does to you. I cannot bear that. I cannot let them destroy you. I promised to protect you.”  “You are protecting me — from Khaos,” I said firmly.  “But there are other dangers. It is not just Khaos,” he said. “Do you not see?” I turned away. How many times would we have the same argument? How many times would he want me to see things the way he saw them? Why did I see things so differently?  Why didn’t I feel settled? Why did I resist Khaos so much?  Khaos. The one who wanted to destroy me. The one who said my earth was ugly and had no purpose.  My purpose.  What was my purpose?  “Ouranos, this is my purpose,” I said, turning back to him. “I am meant to create and provide for other creators. I am meant to inspire others like Nyx and Erebos. I helped Pontos with his seas and helped him form his children. I helped create your heavens so that you could protect us. We have created more creators so that they can grow beyond us. I am meant to provide for all of these creations so that they can find their purpose. I will provide for them no matter what it takes from me.” I paused. “This is what I am meant to do. I create. I provide. I am the center. I am Gaia. I am Mother.”  He enveloped me and closed his eyes.  “I cannot watch them destroy you. I care for you. You are my purpose. Please, let me protect you.”  “It cannot last,” I said sadly. “I can feel that soon they will break free.”  “Until then,” he said, expanding and lifting me into his heavens. “We can enjoy the time we have together.” Chapter 18 [https://ifihadwordscomdomainonly.wordpress.com/2026/03/10/gaia-chapter-18/]    Chapter 20 [https://ifihadwordscomdomainonly.wordpress.com/2026/03/10/gaia-chapter-19-2/]
