The Teachers AI Café
Kane from the Teachers AI Cafe argues that AI won’t replace good teachers but will expose weak thinking and weak assessment by making polished output easy to generate without real understanding. He warns against mistaking fluent AI work for genuine learning and notes students aren’t automatically “AI native,” often lacking the judgment to evaluate accuracy, bias, and reasoning. Rather than banning AI, he recommends redesigning tasks to make thinking visible through process evidence such as annotated drafts, oral questioning, in-class writing, and defending claims. He cautions that AI can remove the apprenticeship struggle that builds expertise, improving products while weakening learners. Used well, AI should be a thinking partner—challenging arguments, prompting deeper analysis, and supporting feedback—while students remain responsible for final judgment. 00:00 Welcome to Teachers AI Cafe 00:51 AI Hype vs Reality 03:19 Students Aren’t AI Native 04:40 Polished Work Isn’t Learning 07:11 Redesign Assessment for Process 09:17 Protect the Apprenticeship Stage 10:02 AI as Thinking Partner 11:14 Make AI Disagree 12:02 Future Proof Skills 13:14 History and Human Judgment 14:33 Agency and Better Systems 16:13 Practical Example Retake Tests 17:55 Wrap Up and Subscribe Subscribe the the newsletter for podcast cheatsheets [https://yugen-learning.kit.com/a028a6f4f4] Find the YouTube version of this here [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLf_k_to1rigiUFseW0QrMVetvpEVXR_iO] Go to this Facebook group [https://www.facebook.com/groups/learnaiforteachers/] to access the cheatsheet https://www.facebook.com/groups/learnaiforteachers/ [https://www.facebook.com/groups/learnaiforteachers/] Email: kane@learnaiquickly.com Bought to you by: https://learnaiquickly.com/ [https://learnaiquickly.com/]
