The Working Womens Podcast
I absolutely LOVED this conversation. In this episode, I’m joined by my friend, psychologist, solo mum of three and creator of Hero Cards, Emmie Fulton, for a gorgeous conversation about intrusive thoughts, big feelings and the emotional tools our children need long before adulthood. And yes, we go there. We shared our intrusive thoughts (you have them too and they're normal btw). We felt uncomfortable. It was freeing. If you listen, it will be freeing for you too. Emmie shares how her work in the NHS, mental health, behavioural science and motherhood inspired her to create Hero Cards — a set of cards designed to help children understand what’s going on in their minds, recognise their feelings, and build emotional resilience in a simple, practical and accessible way. We talk about why thoughts are not facts, why big feelings don’t mean something has gone wrong, and how we can support our children without needing to fix everything for them. We also explore perfectionism, people-pleasing, avoidance, anxiety, and the importance of helping children feel safe with the full human experience. And as always, this conversation isn’t just for the kids. There is so much in here for us as grown-ups too. If you’ve ever wanted your child to understand themselves better, feel less alone in their worries, or have tools to manage those big emotional moments, this episode is a beautiful place to start.
