Why is the resurrection of Jesus Christ essential to the gospel? What does Christ's resurrection prove, and why does it matter for salvation? In this lesson, we examine the resurrection as God's public declaration that Jesus Christ is exactly who He claimed to be—the eternal Son of God and the God-Man Mediator. The resurrection did not make Christ the Son of God; it certified to the world that His claims concerning His deity, authority, and identity were true. We also consider why the resurrection was necessary. Because Jesus Christ is God manifested in the flesh, death could not ultimately hold Him. His humanity enabled Him to die for sin, but His deity required His resurrection, demonstrating that He alone possesses life in Himself and has authority over death. Finally, we explore the sufficiency of the resurrection and its connection to the believer's forgiveness. Unlike the temporary sacrifices and priesthood of the Old Testament, Jesus Christ offered Himself once for sin, rose from the dead, and entered into the presence of God with His own blood. Why is humanity incapable of saving itself? Why must a man be born again? In this lesson, we examine the corruption inherited through Adam and God's answer through the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible reveals that man's problem is deeper than sinful actions—it is a corrupt nature inherited from Adam. Because of this corruption, no amount of self-reformation, religious effort, law-keeping, or good works can restore man to God. God's solution was not to improve Adam's fallen race but to create an entirely new creation through an incorruptible birth. We explore Christ's deity, the divine nature He came to impart, and the necessity of the new birth performed by the Holy Ghost. Through faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work, sinners are made sons of God through an incorruptible seed that can never be corrupted by sin or death. This lesson concludes by demonstrating that salvation is far more than deliverance from judgment. It is God's work of creating a new race of sons through Jesus Christ and restoring fallen man to fellowship with the Father through the new birth.

In this lesson, we turn from Adam's loss in the garden to God's provision in Jesus Christ. The Scriptures contrast the first man, Adam, with the Second Man, the Lord from heaven. While Adam's corrupt seed could only produce death, Jesus Christ entered the world through a miraculous birth, bypassing Adam's corruption in order to restore what had been lost. We examine how Christ came as both the Son of David and the Son of God, possessing an incorruptible nature that could accomplish what no descendant of Adam could ever achieve. As the God-Man, Jesus Christ became the only possible Mediator between God and man, uniquely qualified to reconcile sinners to the Father. This study explores why Christ had to be both fully God and fully man, how His sinless humanity enabled Him to shed His blood for sin, and why His deity made Him the only One capable of restoring mankind to a relationship with God. The gospel is not merely the forgiveness of sins, but God's provision through Jesus Christ to restore the sonship that was lost in Eden.

Through the Scriptures, we trace God's original purpose for mankind, the life that Adam possessed in the garden, and the devastating consequences of sin when Adam disobeyed his Creator. By studying the biblical meaning of seed, image, likeness, life, and sonship, we discover that Adam lost far more than a perfect environment. He lost fellowship with his Father, forfeited the life that God had given him, and passed a corrupt nature to all of his descendants. The result is a humanity marked by corruption, death, and separation from God. This lesson lays the foundation for understanding why mankind cannot save itself and why a divine solution was necessary to restore what was lost in Eden.

If the gospel concerns Jesus Christ, what are the implications for salvation? In this lesson, we continue our study of Gospel Centrality by examining Christ's own testimony concerning His death, burial, and resurrection, and by tracing through the book of Romans the repeated declaration that salvation, righteousness, justification, peace with God, reconciliation, redemption, grace, and eternal life are found in Jesus Christ alone. From Christ's rebuke of Peter in Matthew 16 to Paul's doctrinal arguments in Romans, the Scriptures consistently place the emphasis upon the Person and work of Jesus Christ. The gospel is not centered upon baptism, prayer, church membership, confession, moral reform, or any work performed by man. It concerns the One whom God chose, empowered, and entrusted with the work of redemption. We will also consider the danger of false gospels that diminish Christ by adding human effort to His finished work and examine the unified testimony of the Father, the Holy Ghost, and the Word of God concerning the supremacy of Jesus Christ in salvation. The gospel is not what man can do for God, but what God has accomplished through His Son for sinners who will receive it by faith.
