We are happy to introduce to you Cambridge anthropology graduate, rewarded author, former Stanford and UC Berkeley lecturer, and new Picador Professor at the University of Leipzig, Hannah Michell. Hannah Michell’s life is an adventurous story itself. Born in England, raised in South Korea, until recently U.S. resident, she was always challenged by and questioned the concepts of identity and belonging. We talked about how those struggles influenced her career path and how she incorporated them into her storytelling. Furthermore, she gave us an insight into her teaching on Asian-American identity and cultural representation at the Institute for American Studies in Leipzig. Interestingly, she was also able to share how German academia differs from US-American university culture. Thanks for tuning in! We wish you the most joyful and happy holidays, enjoy the time with your loved ones and don’t hesitate to share this episode with them! We will return in 2026! 250 years of Frustration and Fascination: Olaf Stieglitz's Take on America's 250th Anniversary

For our June episode, Franz and Jessica sat down with Prof. Olaf Stieglitz, Professor for American Cultural History at our Institute for American Studies. He recounts his career path, how he got into American studies, and how he made his way to Leipzig. Contemplating the future of the US, he talks about his current projects: curating a blog about the 250th birthday of the country and researching the sports and physical culture history of LA to write a book.
